Default NY Tri-State Rennlist Track Day For Charity @ Poconos Raceway - Oct. 10th or 11th

Hi All,

Hope everyone is having a great summer. We have already started planning our Fall Event and this one proves to be the most ambitious one yet! We are planning on having our very own DE @ Poconos (East Course) for charity. The benefitting charities would be Anns Place and the “Survive the Drive” Program. Survive the Drive is a program put on by one of the Skip Barber Instructors, that teaches high school students about the dangers of the road and to drive responsibly.

Drivers Ed (DE)
We will be running on the East Course @ Pocono Raceway. It would be the same as your usual DE with other clubs (paid flaggers, instructors if needed, tech inspection, run groups, classroom instruction). The track has been rented by the FRCCA that Neil used to race with and they are giving each run group (4) 20 min. sessions. Helmets would be required, fire extinguishers optional.

Track Layout:

Track Cost & Donation
We are shooting for either Saturday, Oct. 10th or Sunday, Oct. 11th. The cost of the track day (4x 20 min. sessions) will be $100. We are also asking for a $100 donation that will go to the benefitting charities. That is a cost of a normal track day with other clubs, but half of the money will be going towards charity. You will be driving (fast) for a very worthwhile cause!

Sign-Up
In order to move forward with this we would need at least a commitment of 30 people in 2 weeks. We do not have to cover all 30 as other clubs will be involved as well, but I think we can do half of that! Come on guys!!

There will be more details to come as we work on more logistics, but we would like to know who would be interested (need a firm commitment) in joining us for this event.

If interested, please reply back and refer to the original post on the 993 Forum as that will be updated regularly (Link to 993 Post).

Hi Riad,

Yes...as long as you have an approved roll bar.

Thanks.

What is an "approved roll bar"? A factory roll bar that pops up in the event of a roll over?

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I was doing some research to get your the correct answer. The way I understand it you would be OK using the factory rollover protection. According to this, it varies by track, but we have checked with Pocono and they do not enforce it, so i'm 99% sure you are good.

"PCA Requires "factory roll over protection". Thus, from PCA's standpoint, Boxsters, 996 and 997 cabriolets may be used for drivers ed, with the top up (protection from thrown debris). Various tracks have their own policies. In the Southeast, for example, VIR requires a rollbar, whereas Rockingham does not. Each PCA Region may also have its own requirements."

If you are planning on registering, I will get a definite 'OK' for you. Let me know. Thanks.

Thanks! I was asking on Riad's behalf.

I won't be able to make it... I'm doing the 24 Hours of Lemons the weekend before, and my wife will shoot me if I'm gone a 2nd weekend.
