Yes, and I would do it again.
This topic has been beaten to death but here is some of the best info you will find from another thread......Ok, it was my post so I might be a little biased but it doesn't make it any less true.
We were posting about Interstate batteries and someone recommended another model number that comes up for this car on the Interstate website (this model is the MTP-91 but it is NOT the direct replacement). Here was my response;
This is the same thing I discovered via the website. Totally prepared I walked in and said "I need the MTP-91". The guy looks at my $225 22 month old POS Porsche boat anchor and says "why do you want a physically different battery, the H7 is the IDENTICAL case, handles, and location of the vent tube connection whereas the -91 is not". I had him bring both to the front and sure enough, two different animals.
Don't pay any attention to the website. Go to your local Interstate location and put your dead one next to them and you will see. H7 is the one. I believe it has an 85 month warranty.
Most importantly...DO NOT BUY ANOTHER OEM BATTERY. Unless you want to join the scores of us who made that mistake. My original one died early and the replacement made it about 22 months and the dealers will not stand behind them. My local one even confessed that the OEM is crap. Should have just burned the $225 in the fireplace so I could have gotten some enjoyment out of it.

Honestly, I ended up getting mine off Amazon. No shipping charges and no tax.
It's the Red-top 95, I believe. 95R if you want the posts in the back. It really is as easy as drilling 2 holes, and throw a couple of bolts in there, then slap the tray and battery back into your car.

I know it is hard to believe, but I got 8 years out of my OEM batttery! I bought the car new in 2000 and just replaced it last summer. 35k miles, not drivven in the winter, and kept on a trickle charger.
6 years
2003 C4S......6 years and counting.....still registering 14............80,000 miles

I'm actually getting my battery replaced on Monday in my '01 996. I had an Interstate battery put in 12 months ago (don't know model number) and it's dead already. My wife thinks the mirror light may have been left on. Now it's so drained that the car will barely run after being started. What's the deal w/ OEM batteries? Shud I request to not get one? I'm getting it changed at a Porsche dealership.

I'd get one of the batteries discussed here and then invest in a trickle charger, which has also been discussed at length.

Porsche OEM batteries have well-known problems. I think a lot of them are exceeding their shelf life sitting at the dealer. Some Porsche dealers don't even carry them anymore.

Just looking at the Optima website, and was wondering if 34R was the way to go. I did not see 95 or 95R as mentioned above. Perhaps they renumbered their line?

I have a Porsche genuine Parts charge-o-mat (000 043 202 56) battery tender that I bought 6 years ago. I drive the '01 weekly but more like monthly in the winter. Is this tender not good enough and that is why the battery drains?

Wow - a weekly driver, on a trickle charger and it still died in 1 year? I think I'd start another thread, but it sounds like there is a drain [obviously] somewhere.
Is your car fully stock? No aftermarket alarms, Lojacks, or stereo equipment?
