Default Looks like I need to get RMS replaced...

... couple of drips of oil in between the rear wheels and the RMS looks 'greasy/wet'. Sent an email to the dealer to see when I can bring her in for repair. I still have one month of CPO left, so hopefully they will cover it.

Also, I was told to have dealer put a new release bearing in when they are replacing RMS... can someone confirm/opine?

Car has 45K miles on it.

how old is the clutch?
OH wait CPO job? awe,.... watch your wallet.... LOL

If I was in there I would do several things at once, but since it is a "repair" they will only cover what part is bad. You can add things out of pocket (like clutch) and it might be worth it since the tranny is out ?

release bearing IMO is done same time as clutch

Is it worth to do complete clutch at 45K miles? My understanding is that release bearing is a wear and tear item and my only add 30 mins of work

hard to say w/o looking at it... I had a clutch last 12 years and over 180k miles and when I sold the car I doubt it was needing a clutch, then again sometimes a car can have 10k miles and need one NOW.

depends on many factors, but when its out, they should be able to tell you

CPO will covert the RMS fix. Do yourself a favor and buy a clutch from Suncoast and have the dealer put in in while doing the RMS. There should be $0 charge for that. You'll save a couple hundred or more if you avoid buying it from your local dealer.

I doubt the dealer will put clutch in under CPO w/o charge if I buy parts somewhere else... does anybody have experience with that?

The clutch is completely dissaembled to take off the flywheel, which must be done to replace the RMS, so there really isn't any additional labor, just putting in new parts instead of the old parts. Clutch kits run under $400 on ebay, alittle more elsewhere. One question is the Flywheel, if this need to be replaced the retail is abut $1,000.

While they are in there check the IMS seal, if this is leaking it should also be replaced under the CPO, and use the updated bolts for the IMS, good insurance.

Wouter,

Get a quote from Sunset or Suncoast on the clutch parts, then get a quote from Hendrick on what their parts cost. If it is close, get the parts from Hendrick and don't let them charge you any additional labor.

You might want to say something like "I know you have to remove the clutch to access the RMS. I was thinking it might be a good time to replace the clutch, especially since there wouldn't be any additional labor to do that. How much is a clutch kit?" Then just play it by ear and see where the conversation goes. You'll have your Sunset quote so you will know if it is a decent price. If the parts cost is not close to the Sunset quote, then tell them it is too high and see what they say.

I would keep in mind that as your CPO runs out, your relationship with the dealer might become more important, even with local shops available for repairs.
