Default NEED HELP - Trying to remove AC compressor

Need help on removing the AC compressor on my 2000 996. The manual makes it sound easy, just undo the two front compressor screws (bolts) and the rear screw. The front screws were fairly easy, but the rear seems inaccessible. I cannot see it, but can feel it by reaching around with my fingers. But I can’t seem to get a socket or a wrench on it.

To remove the heat exchanger or to remove the engine you have to remove the AC compressor. I am hoping someone who has done this before can shed some light on how they removed the rear screw

I did this yesterday. In order to reach the rear bolt, I used a 3/8" drive ratchet with (in order) the socket, a universal joint, and a 6" long extension. It is a pain but using an inspection mirror positioned above the intake runners for #4 and #5 and a flashlight will help you locate the bolt head. I've attached a cell phone picture taken of the rear of the removed compressor to help you see where the bolt head lies in relation to the pressure lines.

I spent almost as much time chasing that bolt as I did removing all the other connections between the engine and the chassis!

Many thanks my friend. What you show is what I can feel back there. Not quite sure from which angle you put the socket, etc. in form. I guess I will gry them all. Again , thanks, for your response.

The pressure line requires you to angle the socket toward the rear/center of the car. Keep at it...you'll get it.
