Default It's official, my engine is BLOWN.

Got the word from my P dealer when I returned from being away for the weekend. I do indeed need a new motor.
I haven't made the decision on what to do. They quoted me $15,000 which I know is too high. It seems like I've seen on this board a turn key motor job with a reman. motor was between 11-12 K from P dealers. Anyone with any help on this? Thank you. They want $10,100 just for the motor!!!

I guess it will also be for sale, sans working motor, if anyone is interested. I will be weighing the decision on putting a motor in myself, but selling it "as is" will be my choice for now.

Also, just for sh*ts and giggles I am getting the dealership to offer me a price "as is."

PS.....I asked the service person at the dealership if they replaced many motors. There was a pause, a chuckle, and then "Yes, we do replace A LOT of motors."
I don't know how Porsche is able to stay in business this way.

Forgot..........my first Porsche, 2000 C2 with 60,000 miles. I've owned it for roughly 8 months and 800 miles. Motor is toast.

I am sorry to hear this! The reliability statistics are nothing when sh*t happens to oneself.

Othomas,

Sorry to hear about this. Happened to me last summer. Is your car a tip or a 6 speed?

Give www.sunsetimports.com a call and see what they can do for you. I think a crate motor is around $8k from them. Get an indy to install it. You should be able to get this all done for around $10k.

I was hoping for better news even though things were looking bad on your last post

I understand you being down on Porsche, it is very unfortunate you didn't get to enjoy the ride for long

Hang in there

Gl with the outcome

Sorry it went the way it did - based on more recent pricing for motors (which have gone up in the last 12 mths) your quote looks about right.

no easy solution to offer - completely understand if you want to bail on Porsche for good.

Yeah I really, really hate it, but I no longer consider myself a customer of the Porsche brand. Toyota sounds much better at this point.

That sucks and understand how frustrating this kind of thing is. Best of luck selling and finding your new car.

So many posts of blown engines!
It does not make any Porsche owner feel good.

Porsche should acknowledge that there is a problem, and
they should have a program in place to replace these engines.

It sucks for sure, if you're one of those affected! The 996 has been at the top of JD Powers' long-term reliability ranking in its class (tie with the NSX), so I'm still crossing my fingers that they are bullet-proof. Mine's 5 yrs, 18K miles now and nothing mechanically wrong in its history, no RMS, nothing.

Out of curiosity, do engines with auto transmission also have these issues?

Wow, that does suck. I was really hoping that wasn't it for you, but now that it's official I can't blame you for not wanting to touch another Porsche. I think for a lot of us this scenario lurks in the back of our minds. If you get a new engine you should keep the car and enjoy it for a while with piece of mind since the engine will have a two year warranty. Painful though.
