Default Is anyone using the SmartTop or RemoteTop?

I think the idea of opening the top with the remote is kinda cool, but the feature that really caught my eye was the ability to turn on the motion detector with the top down.

I'd love to hear everyone's opinions of these two products - I more interested in the RemoteTop, but I can also see how the SmartTop might be useful (not having to stop and pull the handbrake to raise and lower the top)

PS

Does the 996 seriously not activate the interior motion sensor with the top down? That was one of my favorite things about the TT - I could drive up somewhere with the top down, lock the car and feel secure that while I was in the store/bank/restaurant the alarm would go off if someone reached into the car.

Between that and it's locking interior storage I rarely put the top up on the TT unless I was going to be out of earshot of the alarm.

Any Cab should have at least the SmartTop installed... I really love mine, and I use it all the time.

First mod I did was the smart top; I love it. I'll probably add remote too.

Awesome guys - appreciate the input.

What about malfunctions? I've heard some people had problems with windows going up and down and the lock/unlock behaving strangely. Anyone having anything like that?

Also, do you guys use the top-down motion sensor? Does it work well? Too sensitive/Not sensitive enough?

Thanks again.

Seriously though - I did a search and read what people have said in the past, but I was hoping to draw out people who've had them for years and had complaints. Particularly I wanted to hear more about the issues with windows going up and down and the remote locking malfunctioning. So far it doesn't sound like anyone is having these problems.

Cheers

Are these OEM kits or 3rd party? Sounds like plenty of happy Rennlist customers...

I had some problems. But I worked with Stefan @ Wilhemy and he helped out. For some years, things work a bit different. Overall I think both are must haves.

The remote top control was a "oh cool" thing, but the motion sensor with the top down for me is a "must have". I'd also love to have the ability to raise and lower the top at low speeds.

Funny story: I was driving on a highway last summer in my TT and I saw what looked like a grey wall in the distance - literally it looked like there was a solid wall across the horizon a few miles away. Where I was it was sunny and I had the top down so I pulled off the road and put it up. Not 2 minutes after that I drove into the most astonishingly dense rainstorm I had ever seen - zero visibility, sheets of rain, huge amounts of fog pouring off the hot pavement. It's impossible to convey how heavy this rain was. I had never seen rain this heavy. Anyway, it would've been nice to have been able to put the top up without having to stop on the side of a highway.

u can't operate your top > 25mph.
so u still have to get off the high way to lower/raise your top.
if u want remotetop, make sure your remote range is good. there's a mod to extend the remote range.
most problem i had is didn't secure the connection between chip and base well enough.

customer support is great though. Stefan seems to wires office phone to his cell. he in fact helped me out during his family dining time on Sat.day.
