Burnt 996 Rebuild....Dash Is Out!
Hi Guys, I just finished transferring all of the mods off my Vesuvio 996 to my Iris Blue project 996 (Chuck Jones former car...thanks Chuck). I'm already modding it before I even fix the burn damage...go figure.
The Iris Blue car now has 18 inch polished factory turbo twist wheels with 295s on the rear, Billy Boat headers & mufflers, RSS plenum, and EVO CAI. It already had a B&M shortshifter, GIAC flash, and PSS9 suspension.
I'm planning on pulling the dashboard off this weekend. Does anybody have any advice on how to remove the dash without damaging any of the parts? Also, how does the gas pedal connect to the throttle cable in a non-egas car? I can see a motor assembly that is attached to the top of the gas pedal via a 24 inch long cable....it is cooked. Thanks for any advice. I'll post pictures when I get it apart.
My Vesuvio 996 is currently on ebay along with a set of Schnell 996 headers....Happy bidding.

redridge, you are right about the front windshield. It is cracked, but driveable...I'll pull it as a last resort. Thanks.
dresler, you are probably right also. I must be sick because I'm actually looking forward to it....it's a new adventure in Porsche ownership.
Loren, thanks for the great pictures. They will definately help. I look forward to meeting you with Chuck one of these days.

Does the picture show the old or new wiring? In either case, it looks very scary to me. I took my door handle out today to fix the little micro switch. That was enough of PIA. You are way adventurous to undertake this project. Can't wait to see it done.

A MY99 C2 is a mechanical cable driven accelerator. The MY99 C4 (and all later models) had egas (drive by wire).

Tool Pants, good advice on the boxter parts, thanks.
Michael, Thanks. I'm currently fighting with the dash on the iris 996...I'm trying to remove it without damaging the reusable parts. I don't know what is melted until I get it out.
Thanks for the help guys.

Here are a few pictures of todays progress...about an hours worth. The white powder from the dry chemical extinguisher is NASTY...it burns skin, eyes and lungs. I probably should be wearing eye protection and a mask, but it is hard enough to see all the little torx screws as it is. I try to limit my sessions. Does anybody know what kind of amp set up this is? It wasn't hooked up and the stereo is welded in place....I'm guessing it is still the culprit. The fire damage appears limited to the area surrounding the strero and climate control.
