Default how would u convince your wife to buy things?

i got the permission of buying another p-car.
the problem is i want to buy 2
i want to spend $15K for a 2.5 boxster and 10K on 911 SC.
haven't talked yet, but do u think i have a chance?
i mean, the total is $25K, less than a zoom/zoom u got those days.

As long as she has a 25k number in mind I would just do it.

It's better to beg for forgiveness than beg for permission.

Two cars would cost more to insure...right? Bold of you buying 2 used cars at the same time - knowing there is always something to fix when you buy a used car!

insurence wise, i want to get some "classic car policy" for the SC, so the extra will be ~500/year. i think i am fine with that. yes, there's alwasy something to fix. but hopefully in diff. car at diff. time so that i always have one car to drive around.
It's better to beg for forgiveness than beg for permission? not always.....

The logic of getting two things for the same amount of money.

My tactic is make sure you buy her a nice handbag or shoes, a nice romantic dinner and then during the dinner just slip it in (I'm buying "cough" two cars "cough") after a few cocktails. When you buy it, just remind her of the short and I mean short discussion you had over dinner.

You really have to quickly layout the benefit statements to her. I like to think, what is the first and second sentences that you will be confronted with. i.e. "cost" and "why do you need two Porsches?"

• Sounds like you have the cost issue layed out - don't bring up insurance, maint. etc...just clouds your objective. ;-) - BOGO, I'm buying one and getting one free for the 25g.

• Boxster for those beautiful summer drives with the lovely misses, maybe out to dinner etc...SC for track or whatever your plans...

May the force be with you!

easy...

1st sell her on the 25k #, that is absolutely key
Then share some of the 25K cars you are thinking of
Then share with her your ah ha moment/change of direction that instead of buying 1 car and spending all the money, that it would make much more sense get 2 cars for the same $ so that you have 2 toys, and if one is broken the other is fixed and the older car is a classic and fully depreciated, etc, etc, etc.

I have followed one rule with my wife, buy first, explain later. Go for the 2 P-car purchase and before you know it all will be forgiven.I started with Husky dirt bikes, then a Saab SPG, Audi A4, Audi TT, 911SC,several boats(sail and power), and the latest was my current 996 911. We're still together after 31 years.

I agree with this, but would go one step further...

Sell her on the $25K -- then tell her the cars, with the options you're looking at, are actually more like $30k. Once she agrees to the price increase, have the "ah ha" moments and explain how two separate cars would really suit your needs better -- and, oh by the way, they can be purchased for the original $25k!

This is very similar to what I did... Although it was unintentional. I was contemplating replacing my MB E320 with a 993 C4S. After lots of discussion, my wife agreed to it - although the biggest reservation was she would have no "backup family vehicle" once the Mercedes was gone. After looking at several 993s, and then driving a 996, I liked the 996 better!

The solution was, get a 996 AND a VW eurovan - for the same money I was prepared to spend on a 993! Now everyone's happy!

Kudos to you if you can even "pitch" it in such a way that getting TWO cars is HER idea! Then you're super golden!

Personally, I'd be unable to get forgivness for purchasing a car without approval of "she who must be obeyed" ... a few hundred bucks is the limit.
