And in fact white was Germany's national racing colour, until a 550 spyder needed to shed a few pounds back in the 50's The paint was sanded off, and then it was silver. Wikipedia told me so I *know* it's true.

You should redirect your hate to the people who drive slow in the wrong lane!
I was actually thinking of picking up a Boxter S! Of course, that's only b/c I already have the real deal...

I have to agree that the newer the model the less attention they pay to other Porsches. I will drive around occasionally in my ’58 convertible “D” and there is a 996 guy in my neighborhood who I swear doesn’t even realize they are the same make of car. I try to waive to all other Porsches and hope they will eventually catch on.

Interesting this thread has been revived... I was thinking about this topic this morning. So far this week, I have flashed my lights at two oncoming 993s and didn't get a return flash or wave from either. So I was left wondering whether they were just clueless or didn't acknowledge me because I wasn't drivng a "real" 911?

West Minneapolis area. Pass maybe 3 or 4 p-cars everyday and get 50/50 on the waves. I stopped waving at boxsters because I just started feeling stupid because they never even acknowledge that another p-car is going by.

I was a wanna be,(wanna be from about the age of 4 or 5) my last car was a boxster ...loved it for it's handling. It was really my entry car and never regret the time I had with it. I think my 996 C4 Cab fits me better and is a more elegant car and even I catch myself thinking, it's the real deal. Also, Boxster drew some bad vibes from some drivers, not sure why. 996 always gets respect i.e. - nice ride, love it, can I drive it, etc...

Default I am learning fast...feel bad I didn't flash today..

Coming home another 911 flashed a couple of times....as I struggle to find out where the hell the high beam lights where, he was gone. Well, now I now where they are and I hope the Porsche Gods forgive me.

Is this your first car? Where was the high-beam switch on your previous car that you couldn't find it on the Porsche?

It's interesting the lack of respect the boxster gets.

I was driving with my friend once and a boxster drove by us. He said, "Ha - that guy couldn't afford a 911, so he had to settle on the little boxster. Would you ever want to be seen in a boxster?"

I had to tell him that the boxster was a sweet car and that it was worthy of the Porsche emblem. I would be happy to have a boxster if I wasn't a 911 man. It's not as fast, or expensive, but it's a great car and has truly excellent handling.

I think many people think of it as the poor-man's Porsche, or a wanna-be, so it has an unfortunate image in the minds of the uninformed.

Try being in a 928 and flashing/waving. What I have noticed is the older cars and the track guys are very receptive. They actually are enthusiastic about it.

Peppers.....never........ Boxters, almost never (you can tell when a Boxter owner also has had a previous marqui, they wave and are glad that you did). The 924/944 crowd only seems to see what they can do against the 928 and they barely give a thumbs up/down.

Ahh, being the red headed step child, always fun.

I used to flash and be flashed when I owned my BMW 2002. Now, it's near impossible to get the 65 year old ladies who drive their BMWs to flash, let alone remember what lane they're driving in.

Well, now that I have a 996 I cant wave anymore, I just have to drive around with my cell phone to my ear and that dopey look that the majority of 996/997 owners around here seem to have.
