Just had mine replaced at the 15K service. My car is still under original warranty and I paid for it ($200 or so I think).

The battery is a wear item and may not be covered....Mine went like 30 days after I bought it, so it was replaced under warranty....I dont think its a covered item, unless its defective.

Mine is a replacement and looks clean, but they didn't punch out the little installed-on date things so I have no idea how old it is.

I would have assumed a CPO included things like a new battery.

Same as Newport here. Covered, but only because it was so recent and IS an item supposedly checked on the CPO.

I checked with two dealers locally and both said that the battery was not covered under the CPO.

For years even with a new car with a 3/36 warranty the battery was only 12 months warranty. Now most are covered for the whole length of the factory warranty but typically not covered by any extended or used car warranty- I would bet they will all tell you no unfortunately.

Nope - I am CPO but had to replace my battery with my own funds. I went Duratec from Autozone - 1/3 the cost, lighter, and no problems...

Two weeks after purchasing a CPO'd 02 last spring the battery went. Car was towed to dealer who replaced the battery gratis. They weren't obliged to do it but they knew I was pissed and they did the right thing. I was annoyed at myself because I had planned on replacing the four year old battery myself.
Batteries are wear items and are not normally covered. I bought a battey tender and hook it up when the car is not used regularly. From my experience there is no way to determine when a fully charged but dated battery is ready to go. Beyond four years it becomes an iffy propostion.

Any recommendations on replacement batteries? I recall reading somewhere around here that there are better batteries than those provided by Porsche.

It seems that it comes down to the dealer - it is as noted above, a wear item, but some dealers just swap 'em out on CPO cars as it's the right thing to do. It might even come down to getting Mike vs Fred as your service writer. Mine is ok and I go to pains to be polite to him, even though he missed a lot of obvious but picky items on my CPO car (front speakers weren't functioning, mirror flap fell off - nothing major).

That being said, when I need to replace my battery, I'll drop in an Optima. I have them on my boat and they are amazing.
