Default Looking to BUY. Getting closer.Need ADVICE. 3 C4S to compare

Well, I am narrowing my choices down. Here are my 3 choices at this moment. All Carfaxs have been pulled.
All prices are $49,000 or less.

2002 C4S Silver/blk
39,000 miles
I believe 2 owners(1 private 1 dealer)
new engine around 27,000 miles
Techart wheels and exhaust system
In my opinion this looks the best and is the one I am most attracted to but may not be the best choice. I have all the warranty service records(seller provided and confirmed with 99Firehawks's help). Driven less than 1000 miles since 10/13/05??? I believe this dealer has had it since that date.

2002 C4S Grey/Blk
43,500 miles
2nd owner (Rennlist member)
Private owner now selling
Lots of aftermarket goodies: SSK, Fabspeed exhaust system, 3m clear bra, Passport SRX, Kenwood NAV
API extended warranty till 9/07 or 75k

2003 C4S Silver/Blk
52,000 miles
2nd owner (Rennlist member)
Private owner now selling
CPO Warranty till 1/9/2010 or 100k
no link.

So what do you guys think????????? I need some outside advice as I may not be thinking with my brain.

the 03 Rennlist member car with CPO seems to be the SMARTEST choice especially if it is taken care of very well.

I like the middle one - it's a good balance between the two, includes some mods, and has good mileage. You've also got 10 months of warranty if anything goes wrong. There's virtually no functional difference between an '02 and an '03, so that's no big deal.

Did I say number 3? I mean number 1, THAT's the car to get!!! Or you could always go with number 2....

The car with the Techart wheels appears to have been lowered. Could have upgraded suspension.
I agree with Dell and Gant that the car with the CPO warranty might be hard to beat. You can add wheels, suspension, etc to this car, but you can't add CPO to the others.

So why is a 52,000 miles CPO'd car better than one with Porsche warranty installed engine with less than 12,000 miles on it??

Gant,

So have you changed your mind on the one you looked at or is the one with a CPO a better deal?

You need to find out if the new engine was installed under the original factory warranty. If it was, the new engine is now likely out of warranty. If the factory warranty had already expired when the new engine was installed 12k miles ago, the 2yr warranty of the replacement engine is probably half gone already.

With the CPO car, you are covered for any major repairs until sometime in 2010. That is worth the extra mileage on the 2003 car, IMHO.

I'm new to the board, but just purchased an '02 C4S, so I went through the same thing. I tend to avoid cars with mods for two reasons; first I question the quality of the installation, although that can be resolved by a good PPI. Second, I assume (maybe incorrectly?) that people who mod their cars drive them harder. Give me a stock, low-mileage car anytime.

Why was the engine replaced on car #1? That could be a deal breaker if it was replaced due to abuse.

Also, on the "Techart" car, if the car has only been driven 1000 miles since 10/05, and the engine has 12k miles on it, it is almost certain that the new engine was installed under factory warranty, which may have expired already (depending on in service date of original sale).
So, the new engine would have little to no warranty remaining.

03 c4s... hands down. assuming its optioned out the way you want it, 3yrs of FACTORY warranty, along with 03 vs 02 on the others in my estimation worth 4-5k easy. i would pay 2-3k more for a simple 2yr cpo. this comes with 1 full yr of orig warranty. that would be a huge peace of mind for me. again, all things being equal... ssk is 300, exhaust another 1500, after market wheels, nav and passport you need to decide whether you REALLY like em enough to bridge this gap imho...

Take the CPO. If you don't need it great, but nice to know it's available. Also, if you decide to get out of the car before the three years, it will be easier to unload.
