Talking 2000 C2

52K Miles, all original but for the ignition switch. I say drive 'em like they're going to be outlawed tomorrow and BB is going to come and take them away.

'o2 c2 53k, replaced alternator at 52k, just replaced front brakes and tires all around. No other problems except the oil sending unit which I've been told is an easy fix and will be worked on soon

2000 996, 38K no significant problems and no leaks. Not a lot of miles but a daily driver for 7 years (short commute for the first 5 years). I'm on my third windshield due to rock damage on the Houston freeways.

2002 C2 coupe with 125,700 miles

I'm the original owner and it still has the original engine, transmission and clutch. No RMS problems.

(But, I just found out I'm going to need a new engine sometime soon because of a broken variocam solenoid and worn valve guides. Sometimes it runs like crap and feels like it is only firing one bank of cylinders . . . )

The valve guides being worn reminds me of the old air-cooled engine problems. Can you just rebuild the top end, or do you need to get a whole new engine?

100,000 miles on my 99 C2. All original and running strong - doesn't burn even one drop of oil between changes. I drive it pretty fast and don't putz around like a grandma.

I could just rebuild the top end but, with the solenoid problem and who knows what else (piston rings?), it makes more sense to get a new engine and get another 100,000 miles with no problems.

The ironic thing is that everyone thought the water cooled engines would last longer than the old air cooled engines (based on a 30 year old design) because the technology/engineering should be much better now. But, it appears the opposite is true.

Oh yeah, I had the water pump disintegrate at about 94,000 miles.
