Default FABSPEED Mufler Bypass

Anyway want to comment? I have the PSE, but much prefer a more throaty sound...like a GT3...

The FABSPEED 996 + GT3 Mufler Bypass is VERY interesting...any downsides, except of course that they are LOUD ?

Feedback is appreciated .

This might be a bit more off-topic but a downside might be the fact they are $600 for 2 pipes

I have the fabspeed exhaust on my 02 and it sounds just right imo.

I had the bypass pipes for about 10 miles and then took em off and sold them. Just too dang loud and they reduce the lowend torque on the car.

I had them on for about a week, and took them off. I was scared cops would hastle me and I couldn't have a conversation with my passenger. Usually that was my wife so maybe that's a good thing. In either event, they sound good, but my word are they loud. Never again.

If you want hp/torque, get their(Fabspeed) cat bypass pipes and leave your muffler on. That will definitely be a throaty sound, but more tolerable. the muffler bypass is fine imo on the track(constantly changing revs and a more tolerant of noise atmosphere)but will kill you at certain constant rpms.

But cat bypass will trigger a CEL right?

Yes, at least according to Fabspeed's website. I don't really know, but the CEL is probably due to the lack of differential between the two O2 sensors adjacent to each cat.

Had them for about two weeks. My first impression after the install and when I first started her was WTF did I do??!!! I thought my car was a GT3 cup car they were so loud I was like no way can I live with these. Well I don't know if I got used to it or if the car got used to it but they don't sound as loud as when I first got them installed. Before I was afraid of driving it either because I was going to annoy people, wake up my neighbors, or get pulled over. Now I look forward to it. It has a nice, really throaty aggressive sound. Funny thing is it actually mellows between 4500 to 7000 RPM's. From 1K to 4K RPM's it gets progressively louder and I was actually cringing how loud it would get at WOT but it mellows. Highway cruising isn't too bad. There is resonance in the cabin but nothing too bad.

I still haven't gotten cited for a noise violation but if your in California like I am by-pass pipes ARE ILLEGAL for street use. If you go to the DMV website it actually states that if your exhuast is over 90 something db you can be cited for a noise violation and that not having mufflers is illegal.

My passengers hate it but I'm keeping them.

I attached a pic of them installed.

Talking

mc_renn about says it all. I've had the by-pass system on for about 4k highway miles and I love the sound-it increases my passion for these cars. It was just too quiet with the stock mufflers(a sports cars needs to sound like a sports car) and I love the sound(GT-3 Cup). I sure get a lot of thumbs up.

I've had them on my GT3 for about a year and it's a daily driver that also sees the track about a dozen times per year. I love it. The sound is awesome, especially >8k rpm (sorry, had to throw that in!).

Pros: great sound, weight loss in the rear (I took the muffler brackets out too and dropped ~60 lbs), cooler temps in engine compartment

Cons: LOUD (especially at cold start until engine warms up), terrible for highway driving (bad resonance at 3,500 rpm in my car), tips get tarnished from the heat

I live in the city, so I can set off car alarms as I drive by & **** people off from blocks away.

It's definitely a "love it" or "hate it" type of thing.

Hey Kevin:

Switched to the by-pass pipes from stock exhaust. I was in a similar situation as yourself. Loved the car but just hated how it sounded. I was debating between the Fabspeed sport exhausts or the by-pass pipes. The sport exhausts weren't that much louder to me and plus I was always green with envy whenever a Ferrari or Lambo shot past me hearing that sweet exhaust note.

Kevin,
I had stock then switched to PSE --which was great but Iwanted something more-- so why not go all out and get the muffler bypass-- Its loud very loud but i went for a drive yesterday morning and took her on highway -- its F#$%in the best in my day-- I can only imagine if you had a track to go all out what it would sound like.
My wife isnt into my car to begin with and with these --she thinks its obnoxious
Downside--its loud and like someone said cold startups are REALLY LOUD
But when you are on it its awesome--
Im keeping mine--but I only dirve on the weekends--for a daily driver i would say no way. You will scare people and people will turn in your direction in horror
But behind the wheel its nirvana

Mike
