Default 996 Brakes

Hello all,

I currently have the red brake package on my car (99 C2), and the rotors and pads I have been told, need replacement. Through a stroke of good luck, I was able to get a hold of a complete red brake package (calipers, rotors, pads) taken off of a stock 996. However, the person who sold me the package did not know which model it came from. I cant find seem to find any part numbers on them. The Rotors appear to be the same size (diameter) front and rear. The rotors on my car appear to be smaller in the rear. Are the red calipers and rotors different on C2's,4's,TT....? If what I purchased is not the same as whats on my car, can I just swap out everything?

Thanks,

Dan

Red calipers were stock on the Turbo and C4S only. The C4 had silver calipers and the stock C2 had black.

If you are going to put the larger rotors on your car you'll also add unsprung weight, which you may notice.

If they are bigger than they are TT or C4S brakes...no they are not bolt ons. You need new hubs, bearings, and other parts to make them fit....it will probably cost you more to get those parts than to get the correct brakes for your car.

Thanks for the quick posts.

So the upgraded red brake package on the C2's do not have the same size rotors in the rear as front?

From my last brake upgrade, these are the part numbers of OEM red calipers for the 996 narrow body. The last two number indicate the color of the calipers. The first 9 numbers should match your current set.

996.351.425.11 Left Front Caliper
996.351.426.11 Right Front Caliper

996.352.421.13 Left Rear Caliper
996.352.422.13 Right Rear Caliper

Is the part number stamped somewhere on the calipers? They did not have boxes so I am not sure if they are the same as currently on my car.

The first 9 digi are stamped on all 4 calipers. You should also find the brembo stamp as well.

This is the danger in buying unknown used parts. You could be buying standard 996 brakes that have been painted red. Don't go by color alone.

When I was shopping for a set of red calipers for my 996 last year, the price for the used calipers was very expensive. If I bought a used set, I have to spend hours to clean it. In additional, I have question about the quality of the paint & the quality of the used part. A good powder coating run at least few hundreds dollars. I asked myself do I want to spend that kind of money on a set of used calipers. So I called few Porsche dealer and endup ordered a set of brand new OEM red calipers for my 996 with new bolts. The new calipers was brand new and shinny. Without any time to clean it, I applied three coats of rejex before install. After the new set installed, I sold the old set at ebay. Overall, I spent less than $400.00 for the swap included the 8 new bolts.

Thanks for all the info. Indeed the part #'s were stamped on the top, very faint and hard to read. I could make out only the rear calipers. 996.352.425. I am pretty sure at this point they are wide body brakes. Its a shame because they have less then 200 miles on all components (calipers, rotors, pads) and I was able to pick it all up for cheap $$$. Really wished they would fit my car Do any of the pads from the turbo brakes work on standard C2 red brakes?
