Angry 2002 911 C4 Cab squeaks!!!

I just picked up a 2002 911 Carrera 4 Cab, black on black, with 3000 miles on it. I have never seen or driven such a beautiful car before in my life, and can't wait for some finer weather. I will comment on the experience in more depth once I have driven the car over time.

Problems:
1) Major squeak arising from the back! With the top up, there is a constant high pitched squeaking coming from what seems to be the right rear inside, when going over bumps (even the slightest road irregularity). so it's pretty much constant.
2) Right xenon headlight comes and goes. it flashes on and then off the instant i turn the switch. With repeated turning of the light switch, eventually it stays on, flickers a bit, then warms up. However, within minutes, it shuts off again. So i'm driving with one headlight.

Comments from anyone? Is this typical Porsche quality control? My other car (2001 BMW 330ci) has been flawless since purchase. By the way, all this is warranty covered, and I'm going in to the dealer in 3 weeks.

From whom did you buy the car? With 3000 miles on it you can't assume quality control is all "porsche". Have you tested all of the other lights on the same side - fog, running, high-beams?

BTW, I assume your desire for finer weather has to do with the open-top motoring. The rain you guys are about to get on the east coast is "C4" weather, afterall. You will never fully appreciate the C4 until you drive it hard in the rain. It's awesome!

Yup they are noisy. No the headlights should work all the time. Time for a service call.

Finer weather does indeed mean sunny, warm, pleasant...as opposed to the dreary, damp, nasty weather here in the D.C. area (today being the exception).

The squeak is not simply the type of rattle you expect in a convertible. I have sat in many convertibles that don't make half the noise. This squeak is LOUD, and is constant. Piercing. Very irritating. Possibly a window seal?

And yes, all the lights on the right side work (fog, turn, etc) except the xenon. Side note...Some friends have recommended an oil change at this point (3k miles). Is that the general consensus?

3K seems a little early for oil, but it depends on how/where the car is driven. I change my oil once per year, which translates into approx. 7K miles of spirited, but not aggressive driving.

I had a bad rattle/squeak noise on my '02 996 Cab with 4K miles in the back, as you describe, and had a service appointment. There was a Technical Service Bulletin on this problem and they got rid of the noise without much difficulty.

Make sure they drive the car with you and pinpoint the noise for them when you hear it. That way they can't confuse it with what they think it might be.

Wow, I'm surprised at all the squeaky cabs out there! At 7500 miles, mine has never squeaked, and it goes up and down almost every day.

(The hardtop used to creak before I got that fixed).

My 2002 C4 Cab also squeaks when the top is up. Sounds like a couple of annoying birds have nested in the back/windows. With the top down, the car is solid and squeak-free. I have an appointment with the service department and was glad to read that there are Technical Service Bulletins on point.

I had the same problem with my '02 cab and it has to do with cables in the top that are rubbing against each other. On the dealer invoice the work was described as "Modify Zusatzklappe", op code 6191199; also "repair loose cabriolet top housing, op code 61901999.

If you want a Pcar without rattles and squeeks, then you might want to consider a '993. My '95 993 Cab made less noise than my 2003 C4S.

Oh well...
