Post Scratched Rear Window-Need Help

I did a really stupid thing this weekend. I have an '02 cab with the glass rear window in the convertible top. Something like sap got on it and I tried to remove with with the abrasive side of one of tose two sided sponges. I wound up scrathing the glass so that it is visible when I look out through the rear view mirror. Any suggestions on how to remove, if possible? Larry Reynolds of Car Care Products suggested jewelers paste.

Thanks in advance.

My guess would be that you "scratched" the glass just enough to change the light refraction which causes you to "see" the scratches...that is if the rough side of the sponge wasn't metal. I would think that the jeweler's paste might work...maybe Boraxo or Ajax cleanser. there has to be a solution 'cause you couldn't be the first person that has had this happen to him. While we're on the general subject, don't ever rub your convertible top to remove anything...just keep patting the birdsh*t or whatever until it's removed. The only thing I actually move over the top is a vacuum cleaner brush head...that's probably more than you ever wanted to know.

I think it was either Meguiars or Mothers that made a glass polish capable of taking scratches out.

try doing a search on this website for ideas.

<a href="http://www.autopia-carport.com/" target="_blank">http://www.autopia-carport.com/</a>

there is a detailing section and search under glass. you will get a number of articles. most warn about distortion of the glass if you pollish but that relates mostly to concerns about the windshield. should be less significant in the back window but post there and see what you get.
