Question PSE w/ broken baffle

Didn't think this was tech area material, as it is not overly technical....

question, I have a broken baffle in my PSE, can it be fixed? Also, can I buy just one side, I've heard it has to be purchased in pairs....wtf? No warranty as a friend gave it to me off his 02, lease was up, we swapped....he never "noticed" it he says...it isn't bad inside the car, but outside it sounds HORRIBLE at low throttle...I'm getting chills thinking about it

thanks, 00 C4 CPE

Baffle? You mean the valve that switches the muffler to the sports mode?

Or the internal baffles of the mufflers?

Both can be reparired , it could involve cutting and welding, It may be cheaper to buy a new one, what Robin asked was a good question, A little more detail would be more helpfull

If you need help with cutting and welding please let me know. I would be glad to fix it for you, your only cost would be the shipping charge, if you are in S. CA you can just bring it over to my house.

I have a plasma cutter and a TIG welder, so the repair would be done right.

Are you sure it's a baffle and not the actuator arms on the valves? The actuator arms will rattle quite easily after a few thousand miles. I found a liberal application of WD40 seemed to help. If it's the baffle, I would take Robin up on his offer.

Are you sure it isn't the catalytic converter? If your spark plugs get fouled a little (it doesn't take much, in fact, you might not even notice while driving it), it can allow unburnt fuel to ignite in the catalytic converter. When the baffle burns, it separates from the cat itself. The sound is horrendous at idle, but it goes away under higher rpms because the exhaust pressure pushes the broken part against the side of the cat. How to diagnose? try hitting the cat with a rubber mallet and listening.

I don't know what side you have a problem with, but LA Auto Dismantlers has this left side PSE for $400.00 + shipping of $60.00. Or they say make an offer.

I have never bought from this source and you should note that they get some bad posts on the forums.
