Post Suspension compromise......

I have a 2001 c4 cab. The fender gap is too much for me and am looking to lower it a bit. I do not want a much stiffer ride but better handling would be nice. The ROW sport suspension does not lower hardly any as was recently tested in the Panorama magazine. So I was thinking of H&R springs or the such. But if I did those, would I have to do shocks. On every other car I have worked on I had to do springs when doing shocks because the shocks would wear out prematurely and cause a harsh ride because they were not meant for a stiffer spring. I was thinking about H&R sport with Bilstein HD. I am not sure if I want to go all out with coilover becuase I do not do many track events nor am I sure I need them. What do you guys think? What is the best place to purchase?

I would suggest either the ROW M030, which does lower the car more than it was said in Panorama, or go for the H&R coilover kit. The H&R springs do not mate too well with factory shocks and the Bilstein HD's are not firm enough. You can get any of these from Rennlist sponsor Carnewal.com.

How much lower is ROW it said only like 1 mm or something like that. Is it a noticeable handling difference?

ROW M030 is designed to lower the US cars 20 mm in front and 10 mm at rear. Certainly, there are variations from car to car but the same applies to any other suspension. If you want to be sure to lower your car a certain amount, go for a ride height adjustable system such as the coilovers.

Silver 1.8T,

I had a terrible experience with just installing the Eibach springs over my US spec 030. I ended up installing the ROW spec 030, could not be happier. IMO, the car is lowered just the right amount and handles better. I purchased the complete kit from Gert for under $1k us delivered to my door.

Good luck,
Scott

Silver 1.8T,
I highly recommmend the RoW 030.
Viken,
I have to respectfully disagree , RoW 030 lowered my 996 almost exactly the same as the car in Panorama. Which is well within the stated tolerance of +/- 10mm on each end. BTW the car handles great with RoW 030, I would never go back to standard US.
Scott,
I saw you were selling your car in Panorama, are you upgrading to something faster? BTW are you going to TWS in June? I'll be there for sure (#259).

Regards
Doug

Doug,

I have started a new job that requires me to have 4 door car. My plan is to sell the 996 and get a '93 RS America and a Honda Accord.

Thank you, I did not notice that. What is the best way to order, seeing that they are in Belgium. It is tough to call with the time difference, so is email the best. I have a few questions.

Just a testimonial. I e-mailed Gert about the ROW 030 specifically for the C4S, and I got an excellent reply within 24 hours.

I now have a choice to make, ROW vs PDE. ROW,PDE,ROW,PDE,ROW,PDE.......

Porsche Driving Experience. Link: PDE

Heard Road Atlanta, 2 day course is best deal.

Sebring course LOOKS awesome, though. Sorry for stepping on your topic.
