Post sport exhaust for 99 996

I am considering adding a better sounding exhaust...which ones give the best sound similar to my previous 91 C2? Is the Porsche exhaust any better or worse???

If you review the archives there is a lot of good info on the topic. I'm partial to my Ruf exhaust, it sounds exactly like a GT3 or an air cooled RS, it even has a nice high pitched whirr at idle and cruising speed.Though it is a bit pricey$$
Other good choices are the Factory Sport exhaust, Fabspeed, Gemballa.....
You cant go wrong with an exhaust upgrade to the 996, it will really change the character of the car.

I have the Factory Sports exhaust on the my 996 and I must say the sound is awesome! When the car is idling, it is as quiet as the standard exhaust, but once you accelerate above 3000 rpm, the car will scream. Unfortunately I do not think there are any performance improvement.

I vote for the P-car "Sport Ex". Had to have it put on after I took delivery( hicup w/ order)LOVE IT! Sounds like a sports car @ idle as well, nice little purr, and has a civilized growl thereafter.
Mine was just bolted on! No switches/valves that some say came w/ theirs. Also sounds awesome on start-up on cold mornings when you blip the pedal!
IMHO they should all come this way!( if i wanted a volkswagen, I would have order one)

I had the Fabspeed exhaust installed and I am very happy with it. Nice rumble and burble and I don't have a resonance problem. Price was $975 plus installation of $80.

I have the dual fabspeeds on my 996 and they sound great. Idle sounds normal but once you get to 2500-3000rpms they have a great sound.

I recently installed the Fabspeed exhaust mufflers on my 2002 C4S and its makes the car "sound as it should"...
This is a <must> upgrade
(parenthetically, I was jealous of my Vishnu stage two (2) WRX (3" turbo back exhaust/2 Liter engine sounding better than my C$S (C4S)!!!

http://216.110.171.17/vishnueditionwrx.htm

Please check the Fabspeed web page and sound file/s at:

http://www.fabspeed.com/

The Fabspeed mufflers are 14-16 G T304 Stainless steel and, they are lighter in weight than the OEMs (alot better looking...just barely seen thru the back wheel well; polished mirror finish!)
Fabspeed claims 8-10 Hp (I don't know if this claim is DYNO substantiated, but when they open up above 3000 rpm (even if there's no more Hp) you feel like there is, especially at or above 5000 rpm!

Good Luck!

You can here my Rufs here
An exhaust is one of the best upgrades you can do for these cars. I get a lot of compliments on my exhaust note. There at least a dozen different exhausts out there (probably more) and I haven't heard a bad one yet.

I just finished adding the Factory Sport Exhaust from the manufacture.... DANSK. They have the OEM contract with Porsche. Looks awesome, Sounds great after a couple of miles. You'll be looking for underpasses and tunnels to rooost through. Looks Factory, but Polished SS. If you have a pocket full $$$ burning a hole buy it from somewhere else. If you wanna save $$ for more goodies, then get it from Performance Products (Automotion) It is the Factory Pressed version w/o the valves so it's always open I waited till it was on sale and got 20% off...Buy it

Interesting, my factory mufflers (non-sport) were made by Gillet. I guess the sport version is made by Dansk.
