I ordered the car several weeks ago and I'm picking it up in Stuttgart in June. I would really like to add the Aero kit - the Carrera kit. Is this something you would suggest ordering installed from the factory or am I better off waiting until the car is home and having the dealer do it?
Any opinions on this kit - is it just the rear wing?
Thanks,
Kevin

Would you pay that much for just a rear wing? The aero kit includes different panels at the lower portions of the nose and the sides, as well as the wing. On the 996, the factory aero kit "just looks right" IMO. I have no idea how much faster it makes the car. I'd have it done at the factory instead of later.

My 02 C4 Cab was ordered with the factory Carrerea aerokit. It consists of 4 sections. 1. A front end "spoiler" that is in fact the front end of the Carrera Cup Car; flared rockers; and a rear spoiler. The rear grill and mechanim is replaced with a fixed grill that looks just like the standard grill. The spoiler is a new one. My spoiler and flared rockers were shipped with the car to the dealer and the dealer installed them. The front "spoiler" which is really a front end is back ordered until this fall. You pay for the entire aerokit and then the factory will ship the new front end to the dealer for installation. That's the way it is explained to me. So right now my car has the standard Carrera front, flared rockers, spoiler, and waiting for the aero (Cup) front end.
I have detailed pics of the spoiler if anyone is interested. I cannot upload them, but I will be glad to email them if anyone if you, or anyone is interested....just send me your email addresses.

I have a picture of the C4S in front of me. It looks just like a turbo sans rear wing and side intake scoops. I didn't know anaero kit was available for the C4S...you learn something every day.

There is no Aerokit available for the new 996 Carrera 4S. You'd have to buy the Turbo pieces (or that car's Aerokit) later at great expense.

Viken,
My boss is looking for a rear spoiler for the '02 C4S that is on its way. I have been reading old threads, but I am having trouble figuring out if such a spoiler is available. If it is, where? If it is not, and he needs to do an entire aero kit, where can he get that?
TIA,
Evan
P.S. the Bilstein HD's from Gert are working great!

I am not aware of any body kit or rear spoiler for the 996 Carrera 4S. However, as Jim stated, one or more of those tuners ought to have something out already. Check with Rennlist sponsor CEC for any TechArt body parts.

Hey guys,
do you know whether the GT3-style rear spoiler is discontinued from '01 models and on? The new aerokit I saw for the C2 has a diff. rear spoiler...
Thanks

Yes, as of '02, the rear spoiler is called "Carrera spoiler." It looks like the one on Don's car shown here:

I'm pretty sure with some surgery it can. I am not, however, sure if the money spent would be worth it but that's my opinion.

Dealer told me it can, relatively easily. He also recommeded changing the front spoiler/air dam to compensate for the increased downforce at the back. My humble opinion: such a combo is waaay cool, but increases the drag coefficient (TT's is higher than C4S's) for added downforce it doesn't need.

palting and viken
i agree with both of you that this is not a cost effective or functional improvement but frankly our ridiculously long option list is filled with a lot of useless but expensive crap for a car primarily purchased for its performance and engineering. think of the money people spend for 19" wheels which offer only a cosmetic difference and are much more vulnerable to damage!
for my money i'd try to get a turbo with minimal options instead a c4s with so many options. imo, this is better value. i always try to remember that at trade in you get almost nothing extra for options. this renders options to be a great extravagance since you essentially depeciate them completely over however long your period of ownership lasts.
