Post Sound system on GT3

What sound system is in the GT3.
If it is the same stock, I heard its the standard piece of garbage that came with my 99 C2.

If so I still want the car to look stock. Does it make sense to use the stock head unit and modify the speakers, and change the amp and maybe add a sub, w/o changing the deck?

Let me know.

Thanks

Over here my Bpauknt Amp has this temperature trigger when it overheats. Everytime it does that and the stock amp and speakers keep playing, it's like euuuuhhhhhhh........ i put off the system till the fuses on the Bpauknt cool down..

BTW my amp is 300W RMS on rear 20cm 3ways and 8in (only) sub.. Proudly designed, circuited from stock amp and head, built and installed by ME!

I am running what you have noted, namely the stock deck a ppi 5440 5 channel amp and a jl 10w3 d4 in the rear. It sounds better than the bose and I haven't changed the dash speakers to focals yet.

Don't expect to listen the the stereo while driving. 8,200 rpm without sound insulation...

If you're worried about audio quality, then the GT3 isn't for you. I would've ordered mine without a radio (delete option in ROW), but not available in US

Funny that you guys should post this.

I was thinking about putting in an aftermarket nav system, since PCM is not an option. Don't know why, just think it might come in handy, and the screen looks so cool in the dash.

Shouldn't add too much weight... or does it???

Grant, thats like saying if you are worried about speed limits then the GT3 is not for you.

RR- You missed my point. I'm not against enjoying a nice stereo - I build them myself (my favorite hobby after cars). Here are some goofy photos:

http://www.teresaudio.com/haven/friends/grantg.html

However, the GT3 is not a suitable platform for enjoying the stereo - unless the car is parked. It is suitable for tracking (where speed limits do not apply). Anything that adds weight or is otherwise contrary to the purpose of the car is in my opinion, undesirable...

I currently drive a Z06, the engine note on this vehicle is superb...the V8 just sounds awesome it also had a Bose sound system, which has been taken out and replaced with a Kenwood head unit, Boston Acoustic Pro speakers all the way around, 2 PPI amps and a removable enclosing that houses two JL Audio 10" subs...when you step in the car the only thing you can see is the head unit everything else still looks stock...When I go to the track, I remove the subs and amps (which are located where they are easily reached). I have a GT3 on order and plan to do the something similar, IMO its the closest I've come to a perfect compromise between having a race car that I drive on legal roads and then turn right around and take it to where it belongs, the racetrack. Just my $.02

In response to the Z06 guy, I like the car, but the exhaust is WAY TOO LOUD. Uncomfortable. I dont blame you for juicing up your stereo, you need it. Sounds like a nice system.

John Murray,

You're partially correct. Its very loud at full throttle, but the biggest issue wasn't engine sound, like I said I enjoy that, its road noise. Once you're at speed above 100Km (62 MPH) and just cruisin' down the highway at a pretty even pace the engine is very much quite, but the road noise SUCKS!!! I suspect it will be somewhat the same in the GT3 as neither one of these cars have noise deadding (Spell?) materials. And there's just something about listening to RADAR LOVE while driving a true sports/race car.

I bet we could do an age split here: i can't remember when i last used the CD player in a TT, GT2 ... who gives 2 poops about the stereo in a GT3, it's got a 8200 redline stereo.... and it adds weight all those base speakers
don't forget the Burberry pattern custom upholstery, Wilbur can get it for you... right Wilbur?
