Talking mucho thanks to loren about B&M

He sent me instructions via email.

I finally got the short shifter kit installed this weekend. Took me a while but I'm confident next time I have to do it, it will take me less than hour. :-)

I did find this piece worn out. Should this be a concern? It didn't seem to affect the necessary parts of the shifter, it still held the ball in place nicely.

Here's more pics.....

What's worn out? It looks fine to me. Is it the groove worn into the lower part of the socket end?

yeah on the right part where the ball goes in.. Do you see it? Doesn't look right all that wear on just 28,000 miles on shifting.

Is that damage perhaps from someone trying to pry it off?

If the new shifter snapped in tight and there are no cracks it is likely ok.

I dunno, the damage there looks like regular wear.. kinda weird. But yeah it seems ok since it snaps in tight.

Question, the shift feels tight, perhaps I tightened the 2 shifter cables in too much? Where I push the coil and put in the connector.. there I put it in the middle of the "screw like inside groove".. maybe I should put it at edge. Coz it does feel a bit tight. Know what I'm talking about?

That part can break. On a GT3R it is made of metal. Jeff

Mine looked very similar to that, lots of wear after relatively few miles (18K). Must be a design flaw, I would love to get a hold of one of those GT3RS units, at least the linkage.

That groove looks like it was rubbing on something. I think that particular cable end sits lower (to the hump) with the B&M, so I'd look for interference. As far as the cable adjustment goes, I don't think that would make the shifter feel "tight", just the endpoints of throw would be off. If the side to side motion is "tight", that would be the bushing adjustment. Fore and aft too tight, I don't know.

Tool Pants?

Also, Jeff, can you buy just the metal cable end from the GT3? I thought the cables were different. Know any part numbers?

The cables on that car are different than a Boxster or 996 so it will not work, and you can only get the part from Porsche Motorsport if you had a GT3R

I wonder how much that individual part cost (if you can buy it by itself). I should get a spare just in case... or get the GT3R metal one. :-)

hey Tool Pants, this part is the one for Boxster/996 where you put the ball in, the one I have in my pic of worn out part?

Just making sure. I will order it today. Thanks in advance!
