Default Can I get a warranty on this 996TT?

There is a 2001 996TT tip for sale in Illinois that I really like. It has 13k miles and has custom wheels and a graphite interior. The dealer who sells only luxury cars & has tons of porsches is asking $76k for it. There is no warranty on it. But he is offering their warrany (E-Z care) which has a $100-$200 deductible that he says can be used at any porsche dealership. It has no deductible if I use it at their place. But I am in California . So that won't work.

Can I get another warrany on the car through a porsche dealership or perhaps through another company with zero deductible? Obviously , I dont want a problematic company that will give me trouble every time I bring it in. Or should I just pass on the car alltogether since their warranty is a problem to use.

Ask your dealer what 3rd party insurers they like to work with. Keep in mind these tend to be "disaster" warrantees, not bumper-to-bumper kinds.

I have also heard alot of these deductible warranties are per item not per visit! Not to mention they don't cover much.

I had an AllState extended warranty on one of my previous Porsches. It turned out to be totally useless. When I did have a claim, they denied my coverage because I had track seats and therefore changed the "original" components.
After some turbulence and some threats, then still would not honor the policy...but, in the end, they refunded my entire premium.
So, I have not heard of any 3rd party warranty that is reliable. If you come across a 3rd party warranty that is useful, please advise.
thanks and good luck.

When the factory warranty was running out on my 2000 C4 Cab I had 30,000 mi. at the time) I purchased an Easy Care Warranty through the Porsche dealer where I purchased the car. At the time I tried to get the factory extended warranty, but this dealer said this was only available for used cars that the dealer was selling (since that time I have heard that this might not have been the case, and that cars still under the factory warranty should have been elgible for the factory extended warranty which would have been 4 more years and 100,000 mi. I have never been able to verify if I should have been able to purchase the factory extended warranty. There was a post within the last month regarding extended warranties so you might want to do a search) In any case in january of 2004 I paid $2,663.00 for the "Gold" version of the Easy Care warranty, with 4 yrs. and 75,000 mi. and a $200.00 deductible. There are several different level of Easy Care, and the Gold was the most comprehensive. I haven't had any claims yet so unfortunately I can't tell you how good it is. It was highly recommended by the dealer (although I am sure highly profitable for them, more so than an extended factory warranty) who also said it would be honored by most Porsche dealers.

Today I asked the dealer is a leaking expansion tank would be covered by Easy Care, and he said it would. I may have to have it replaced next week. In any case, I will keep the forum posted on my experience with Easy Care as time goes forward.

Still, try first for a factory extended warranty.

The dealer sold you that warranty b/c they make more money that way. Sorry, but they chose gross profit over customer.

LVDell - I am sorry to say it, but I think you are right on the dealer looking for profit. Also, The Exchange in the chicago area seems to be one of the highest costs dealers, they now charge $149.00/hr. for service. They are quite good at service though. Guess at these rates they can afford to be.

I purchased an EasyCare policy from the Exchange in February 2005. About 3 months after I purchased the car and warranty the alternator went bad. EasyCare covered it w/no questions. The Exchange did the work and provided a Cayanne loaner. No problems. Then about 2 weeks later I had a coolant leak due to a bad hose. EasyCare covered it again. Total claims are probably around $1800 and the policy is only 6 months old. It has almost paid for itself. I am not a big fan of the Echange though and can recommend another great P-car mechanic in Deerfield that does EasyCare work as well. They only work on P-cars, Mercedes, Ferarri, etc.
