Picture of RUF SC
Every once in a while, I start to think about more speed and I end up at the SC issue. I really like the idea of a RUF SC. So in an email with RUF, they sent along this photo and I thought someone might be interested in it. I know its expensive and the Evo option is cheaper, with more boost, but its not a RUF...
As an aside, this photo took something like 30 minutes to post, so you better bloody well appreciate it.... file too big, space too big, wrong format.... aghh

It does not show the actual supercharger but you can see the pretty RUF manifold. The guys at RUF said they have done a few in Europe but none in the US. They are tossing around the idea of doing a demo in Dallas, so it would be nice to see it all in the car.
Just so someone doesn't ask. I don't work/own/have a vested interest/ in RUF. I like Porsche's and if you like Pcars, you have got to like the RUF.

An observation how many SC Ruf cars have been converted how many Evo cars? I would lend credibility to the company that has more experience/miles on their units. Ruf is a very well know name but Evo had their 996 SC out at least a year or two before Ruf. Does Ruf offer a full powertrain warranty with their Kit? This and the name would be the only advantage I see. Also isn't their kit almost double the cost of the Evo?

RUF warrantees both the SC and the engine against damage from the SC.
The RUF name speaks for itself. I've seen people complain that the RUF SC puts out less HP than the EVO, but RUF always understates their numbers. I'd bet a good amount of money that RUF and EVO SC'ed cars are pretty much the same.

I agree the name is what you are paying for and it is worth a premium just like Rolex or Gucci If you can afford to pay almost double then the decision is easy. I guess it is a financial decision and that is probably why there are so many Evo Kits being installed. If I were you and you wanted the RUF name for satisfaction and peace of mind then I would not pay $20K sell your car and buy a Turbo. You will get the Porsche Name and all of the bells and whistles the Tubo has to offer. At least with the Turbo if you decided you wanted/needed to sell the car in 12 months you would almost brake even or make money depending on the type of deal you find. If you decided to sell the SC car with the SC Ruf or no Ruf you are going to loose a big portion of what you paid for the upgrade. There are a few SC cars for sale right now I know Kirby will chime in and it is not easy to find a buyer willing to pay for your car with the SC installed without loosing a good sum of money.

Sandoval: I see your economic analysis, but look at it this way. The RUF is $20k installed while the EVO is $10k (group buy excluded), plus $3-4k for install, so your almost at $13-14k. I don't know what the warranty is for a EVO, but the RUF warranty is 2 years for the SC and the engine, so thats got to be worth something. As for the resale of the car, I would believe that an EVO SC would just kill the value of a car. While I don't think any aftermarket SC helps the value, a RUF one would have the least impact, IMHO.

I was under the impression the evo kit installed is about $12K. I could be wrong... It is still a 5-8K Delta. Again if you can afford to pay 60% more for the kit installed then your answer is easy. I would still upgrade to a Turbo at the $20K price tag. However some guys are just in love with the car they have and that would not be an option.
