Default Radar detector help

Hi, I installed My valentine one last weekend. Today I looked under the dash and found a K40 ****? I looked at the front end closely and found the other components. When i turned the switch two small LEDs lit up on my speedometer and it chirps? Is the K40 any good? Does it detect laser?

Should I keep it and move th V1 to my wife's car?

I really need some info on what the **** does on the K40 as it seems to have two "on" positions.
TIA
Steve

I don't think it will perform anything close to the V-1. The big feature of the K40 is the stealth installation.

Depends on the model, I saw last years www.speedzones.com test results which had the UN2000 SWL model(newest model) equal to the top 3 dash detectors.

I have the UN3000(older model) and have run it along with my passport 8500, the detection range is the same in K band and KA band.

Now in regard to filtering, that's an entirely different story. I have only a city and hwy mode whereas my 8500 I have more options. I now keep the 8500 in my SUV and have grown to trust my K40.

I installed a K40 system on my Maser Coupe & am 100% satisfied. These are excellent systems. FYI my setup was approx $1400. From what you describe you have front & rear sensors. The thing to check would be whether you also have a Laser Diffuser in front or in back or in both locations. I have one up front. The diffuser will confuse police Laser by distorting the signal received by the Laser gun.

I have been a long-time Passport/Escort user. When I installed the K40 I hooked up my Escort S2 to compare sensitivities. Both were practically identical. I also had a Silver Bullet on hand...it was terrible compared to the other two.

Enjoy the K40...it is an excellent stealth set up.

I too have one in my car, it was fitted before I bought it.

How can I tell which model it is, new or old?

Cool

Put up the V1. It'll protect you better. It has all the updates of all the old and new radar on the road. and it's sensitivity and logic mode is unbeatable.

Mine came with my car as well, I didn't know it was on the car until I arrived in Ohio to pick the car up. I brought my Passport 8500 with me and used both in tandom for the 500 mile trip. But to answer your question, I didn't know what model it was until I looked through the owner's manual leather case. There was a narrow rectangle instrution booklet for the detector which had the model number on it.

I prefer my features on the 8500 but not having to worry about a dectector on my windshield is priceless, especially for the same detection level of the Big 3(Bel, Passport, V1).

I sent K40 an email and I received a reply from a guy down South who works on really high end stuff. He ran my vin and he was the original installer. I am going to bring it to him tommorow so he can redo the front end sensors/diffusors as it does not perform as well as my v1. He listened to the beeps over the phone and says something is amiss. He mounted the red front rear Leds in my speedo. It is very discreet and if it works well my wife is getting the V1 with an additional difuser.
