Default For those that have driven really, really fast..

I was driving really, really, fast a few minutes ago and everything was fine but when I decided to not go any faster I pushed in the clutch to coast to a stop. Well at that point all the dash lights came on. I managed to come to a complete stop only to realize that the car had cut off, which is why all the lights came on. Fortunately, I was at a red light in the turning lane so I could make a quick u-turn to go home. I pulled out the key, reinserted it to start it up and It started up fine. There was no overheating, no oil compression problems, no wierd sounds and it drove fine.

Did I choke the car out by pushing in the clutch after going really, really fast? Do you think the GIAC or V flow caused a problem. It'll be a while before I get another perfect storm to do that again. So I may never know.

Also, as I pulled into the driveway, the black cat that walked across the street last night, while on my way to my buddy's house, was sitting at the end of my driveway licking his paw looking at me like "I warned your *** last night"..

Forget about what happened with the stalling...why are you pressing in the clutch and coasting at speed. That's one of the most dangerous things to do as far as car control goes. Let the engine brake for you.

Use the brakes to slow the car, and like 1999 said don't disengage the clutch.

Have to agree with the mistake you made. NEVER "neutral" from high speed to a stop. Brake and downshift at corresponding speed. Without a gear engaged you really loose the strength of the car.

Well, if he was on power at speed and disengaged the clutch with the right foot still on the gas pedal, the engine would hit the rev limiter, fuel would be cut and potentially (even though it should not) shut the engine down and all electronic lights could come on. Either way, that was a bad move and whatever the car did, it probably did the right thing.

Anyway, how fast is "Really, really fast..."??? :-)

Point taken, I'll just add, clearly you lose controll when engaging the clutch because the car cut off..

Just curious, does the 996 have enough power to hit the rev limiter in 6th? I have never tried it, but I suspect it couldn't happen.

I can happen, I saw it go to 6200 rpm and still pulling, up hill. I believe the car is geared to limit itself at a certain speed instead of electronically controled like many cars.

Eh - 67? Really really fast? ;-)

I've done 140 mph/h (225 km/h) without any hitch. Still got to find a empty highway to take it to the max one day.

I can tell you that my Duramax pickup shuts off the fuel at 100 mph. It's like hitting a wall. The damn thing just goes quiet.
Wind resistance has got to be 3-4 times that of the 911.
Rural high desert Oregon is just like Nevada. Nothing for miles.

Wow :-D

The 911 is good for up to 285 km/h if I recall correctly. I surely dont hope it shuts off fuel when going that fast.

But 100 mph in a pickup - must be scary as hell. My mothers old VW Golf rattles and shakes so much around 90-100 mph that I do not dare drive it faster. But 140 in the 911 almost feels like driving 40

If you had just let the clutch out the car would have restarted and everything would have been fine.

Like others have said, never coast at speed. You never know when someting is going to happen that will force you to make an evasive move and you want the car under power when that happens.

As for why it stalled. Hard to say. I sure wouldn't worry about it.
