Here's my orange cap :)
It's actually red ... no chance of getting ingested by the engine

It serves the purpose for the 996 although removing the muffler from the air box will give it more breathing room or more airflow. This is accomplished by that piece(muffler block off elimination plate) that actually comes with the 996 cold air kit which eliminates the muffler.
Anyways, my opinion is I don't think it's really a cold air kit since as we all know, our air boxes has multiple drain holes in the bottom which hot air can be sucked in. Additionaly, my $0.02, this red instake hose is just too expensive for $225 good thing it was given to me. With my limited resources, I would rather spend that money on a DE.

Well I installed my Orange Cap on Friday afternoon. It took less than 10mins. The sound was pretty cool at over 4k rpms.
gota911, hey I am glad u felt the same way about the make of plastic for the orange cap. I think I am going to leave it in for a while and check the cap for warpness after sometime.

I just took the air filter apart to plug the hole instead of using the plastic cap to be safe. However, what I found was this muffler only has one hole which is connected to the intake. In other words, there is no direct air flow from the chamber to this pipe where we are trying to plug using this plastic cap.
See the attached picture I just took and you will see there is only one hole.

Ok so to settle this, based on what ubergeek found, there is no way a cap can be sucked through into the intake??????????
PS- the cap off a small gatorade bottle fits exactly when turned upside down and inserted!!! Maybe we should call this the GATORADE mod??

Bumps it up to a current post on the forum. Also it means will anyone frickin answer the question???!!!! Thus again, So based on poster "ubergeek's" findings (when the airbox was taken apart) THE CAP WILL OR WILL NOT BE SUCKED INTO THE ENGINE IF IT COMES LOOSE??
