997 has no spare tire!
Unlike previous 911s, the new 911 Carrera doesn't include a spare tire. Instead, drivers get a tire sealant and electrical compressor to patch a puncture and continue, albeit at 50 mph or less, to a repair station. Reasons for the change: It was difficult to find room inside the car to store a 19-inch tire, if a flat developed, and eliminating the spare reduced the car's weight by 22 pounds.

That really makes sense... there was a thread here a while ago where I stated the same thing... my C4 and my new C4S cab has the inflatable tire with the compressor. Every time I've had a flat I've had to call Porsche Roadside Assistance... why? Because there's no friggin place to put the flat... just made no sense whatsoever.

Argh! As if the dinky spare wasn't bad enough...now you're SOL if you get a flat. But in case you're interested, you can pay extra (of course) for a tire pressure monitoring system.

My M5 came with an inflator kit and no spare. I have driven it 41k miles with no problems. BMW did a little research and found that on average drivers use their spare tire once every 70,000 miles. While that statistically supports the case for no spare, it doesn't do you much good if you get a flat in Possum Junction at 2am.

Yes they were a little noisy but I also knew that if I was going 100 MPH and had a flat tire I could recover and come to safe stop with no problem. And then proceed to a GM dealer for repair. Along with the Run Flats the C5 had a great (and very accurate) tire pressure monitoring system. It was peace of mind and that is worth a lot in my book.
The new C6 will also have these Goodyear Extended Mobility tires that are supposed to be even better and quieter.
I think Porsche could have done better with the 997 than a can of fix-o-flat IMHO.

i've heard a lot of bad things about the ride quality of run-flat tires due to the increased sidewall thickness.
i had a flat in my C4 once, and i just put the flat tire inside of the car. there's a plastic bag in the tool kit to put the wheel in so you don't get the car dirty. if there's two people in the car, the wheel will even fit in the back seat, no problem.
