Default ROW Flash, Which Emission Standard? (EU2,EU3?)

So I have successfully obtained my DME/IPAS codes and am wanting to switch to an ROW DME configuration so I can bypass the SAI and post-cat O2 sensors. I am unsure of what emission standard to select in my PIWIS III (clone) unit. I don't have a listing for ROW, but I do have EU2, and EU3 (there are a couple options for each of those as well).

Which one do I choose?

I won't be offended if you feel like walking me through it step by step. You don't know what you don't know, right?

Thanks!

EU2 is without SAI and without post-cat O2-sensors. It was how the 996 with M96.01/ 3.4 was homologated in Europe (and other countries) for MY98 and MY99.
I don't know whether MY2000 and 01 met EU2 or EU3 emission limits.

Meeting EU3 emissions required both of the above.
All 3.6 met EU3 requirements.

EU2 is pre-2001 models while EU3 required post cat O2 sensor for new cold start emissions regs. The EU2 tune should code out 2nd O2 sensor. The E46 M3 folks run EU2 to do this for the later years.

Would there be any downside to applying the EU2 configuration to my ‘02 3.6?

Well,
I tried programming the EU2 map with my Chinese clone, but everytime I go to execute, it says that it was not completed successfully. I have tried numerous times using both fast and slow and it immediately fails.
Any ideas?

Does flashing EU3 work? EU2 wasn't available on the 3.6 with its BOSCH DME 7.2 but only on the 3.4 with Gen 5.2 DME.
As such it could well be (and probably is) that the EU2 file isn't compatible your DME.

I’ll try EU3, but I hope that it still disables the SAI and post cat O2 sensors.

Justin, you may want to consider giving Rhonda at FVD a call. They have direct access to Porsche factory software and updates as well as custom programming given all the parts and work they do with the 996 for the track and street. Who knows, they may be able to get you what you are looking for.

I recall reading on this forum, somewhere, that a PIWIS 2 is preferable to the PIWIS 3. That may be your limiting factor.

Rest assured, it won't disable them but it will show whether at least your tool can flash an ECU.

No joy on the EU3 either. Maybe it’s my VAS6154 adapter.

If there’s anybody in Middle GA that wants to help out, I ac drive to you.

That's a shame. Unfortunately, I can't contribute any further.

For what it's worth, can confirm an me7.8/996.2 on the EU2 flash does remove SAI and post cat o2s - but is not the only way, it's not too hard to alter the existing file to remove them (and loads of tools can read/write the dme).
For SAI, just zeroing the expected airflow x volts map allows you to remove the pump and pass readiness checks which is really neat (you'll need to either alter eskonf, resistor the vac valve connector or leave that in place), post-cat o2s aren't too difficult either but you do need to alter some cat-related parameters (and resistor the heater wires or alter eskonf - just removing the heater dtcs causes adaptations to stop working).
Can modify or supply a file if it helps!...

I'd like a file please.
