Yeah, pretty sure you can get a new tire for that rim.

You know, that's a great question because I'm sure mine is original (24 year old rubber) and probably should be replaced if I ever need it. My nephew works at Discount Tire so I have a good connection for a replacement I'm sure. I guess I better put that on the To Do list......

Somewhere on RL is a thread on the topic with tire options that's about 2-3 years old.

I have a ‘99 and I used my collapsible spare when I got a flat last summer. It worked fine (I only drove a couple miles on it) - I drove home, ordered a new tire from tire rack. 3 or 4 days later my tire came in, I brought the wheel with old tire (which was totally trashed) to the place I had the new tire shipped to, and bam! New tire mounted on wheel. Brought wheel/new tire home, mounted it up and I was back in business. I removed the valve from the spare it collapsed back on the wheel and I put it back in the frunk. I hope I don’t need it again soon…

I have heard the opposite that the tire is not replaceable and has been made obsolete by Continental

The entire rim & tyre is still available as a spare part though

My old spare held up yesterday, but I’ll be getting it replaced now.

So I went to a tire shop today, and asked the owner to replace my spare. He said it doesn’t need to be replaced. I told him it could be 25 years old. He said they don’t go bad. I asked him 4 times, and each time he said, these spares don’t get used hardly ever, and they aren’t really made from the same type of rubber as regular tires. He said it’s fine.

I also don’t think the spare needs replacing. You really shouldn’t be driving fast with it due to its small size, so you’ll still be fine to putt around town with the aged rubber.

Its easy enough, just pull it out in the sun and look at it, when they start aging they get cracking/checks in the rubber.
I've had other cars, that the inflatable space saver fail on inflation which makes it a bad jackstand.. LOL

Good Luck!

I don’t. I’ll have to ask the tire guy when he sees it. I remember passing over a new section of road and immediately felt a vibration. I was thinking: this new road section is totally messed up!
