Default Spare tire date code

I can’t find it. Where is it? This is off my 99 996.

You have a 3 digit code...very old...

If your tires were made before the year 2000, the date code will be only 3 digits – the first two digits again listing the week of the year, and the last digit being the last digit of the year of the tire’s manufacture. This means a date code of “529” could mean the tire was manufactured in December 1999, or December 1989 – or even December 1979.

The left pointing triangle ◀️ following the 3 digit date code was required by DOT from 1990 onwards. Then the 4 digit code was introduced for 20xx.
80's tyres have 3 digits and no Triangle.
So your spare is made in 99.

Yea, I forgot about the little triangle and apparently so did GoodYear....lol ...The statement about the date code I posted came directly from the GoodYear ...

It being stored under a cover in the frunk really extends the life. Its only designed to get u to a tire store. If its not dry rot and it holds air, im sure its fine for 25-50 miles at reasonable speeds.

No, but my plan was to call my local tire shop, give them the dimensions of the tire and wheel size and pick anything that fits. If that doesn’t work, I’ll just get a mountain bike tire (kidding).

Agree. But my tire had all this white stuff all over it, and it appears to still hold air. But I think I’ll replace it anyway just to be safe.

MM - Apparently this tire fits the rim and the cover is snug, but fits, per a “PCA Tech Talks” from 2019. Continental CST17 125/80 R 17 99M $125

I was thinking about the age and reliability more than appearance. This thing is going on 24 years old!

Something to remember is that your full size tire wont fit in the frunk. Carry a large plastic trash bag so you can put the bad tire in the car without getting everything filthy.
