The difference is that on an enclosed air box the entire inside of the air box and the snorkel is the surface area in close proximity than can conduct the heat when heat soaked.
In an open air box like the one EVOMM has there is no surface area in close proximity to conduct heat ....so the ambient engine heat raises the IAT quickly, but also when moving at speed the outside ambient air goes straight into the filter and lowers quickly ....
Here is an IAT plot from a 90 degree day at Watkins. After the out lap (2:37) it dropped from 143 to 102, another lap and a half it got to about 95 where it stayed. This is a stock airbox.
The articulating spoiler used on the non-aero cars lowers at about 40mph. This decreases the air flow into the engine compartment greatly.. This is also one of the reasons I fixed mine to be extended at all times , besides I like the looks of it extended over the silhouette of it lowered...Just a personal preference..
I have had my car for 15 years and always leave my OBDLink dongle plugged so I can have all the OBD2 data displayed on my phone when driving so I can monitor all the data.
I have watched the time it takes for the IAT'S to go up at idle when at a red light and how long it takes to cool off after getting up to speed with both the factory air box and an open air box like the one shown above..
You can do this too for about $20 ....
Do you have a link for the dongle you leave plugged in? That sounds like a good idea. Thank you. Also glad you were able to speak to Noah.
I get my work bonus on 12/21... might be buying myself a nice Christmas present

would love to see some real world data and feedback with the design and MAF placement. I’m supporting Rennline as they are supporting the 996 platform with some killer products!

if you look at the install instructions on the website is shows the MAF placement and also more the design of the intake.. I found that out when looking to see how they addressed the water intrusion.

If I havent gotten my car dyno'd by then I think I could convince the shop to let me do a before and after, this seems like an easy enough install that they will let me occupy it to swap it over.

That makes sense for water intrusion. I know the K&N intake has had some issues with MAF placement and the Rennline has a similar placement… I dig the design and I hope the deign can combat heat soak issues too.
