Default Catless pipe questions post install

I know there is probably a thread for this, but, did a quick search with nothing concrete...

I have lost some low-end throttle response and what feels like HP, somewhat expected. It happens more once the pipes heat up.

But is there a solution for this? Just curious. I feel like rolling the clutch so long every time I leave a stoplight will get old.

A quality tune will help.
Another decent fix that I've done is upgrade to a GT3 throttle body.
But the best(IMHO) is to replace with Sport Cats.

Yeah, makes sense. I have considered that. COBB or someone similar? I am in Denver, so local would be nice. I may upgrade to that GT3 throttle body, not a bad idea either and not one I thought of. Thanks for that. I have checked for torque on headed flange bolts to make sure they are not leaking either, so, eliminated that.

COBB doesn't support the 996 Carrera.

As you stated, a good tune fixed all of this.

Let me see if I have this right.
  • Spend money to take cats out
  • lose power
  • spend money for tune
  • get power back
what am I missing.

Well, when I did it on my 964 there was also an incredible stink. So there's that too... I finally figured out why I couldn't get chicks. I put it back on and then I was a rockstar. Haha.

I would consider a sport cat but won't be going stink butt anymore.

And now with the bonus of also spewing toxic gasses into the atmosphere for no good reason!

There is no doubt that without the back pressure you have lost torque. My car has a fister exhaust and I can notice a slight change in low in torque compared to my friend's 996.1 with stock exhaust. Your setup is just much more severe.

Most cars require the pressure feedback at the cat to operate correctly. If you take it out, you need to tune it, or time it differently (I think delaying the exhaust cam a few degrees) which is not easily done on the Porsche.

Man, some of you keyboard warriors... lol Always makes me laugh, so thanks for that. This is a track car build, that gets driven on the street some.

Furthermore, who cares about the money? I also wanted a tune anyway, was always on the build list. I am also guessing some of you cannot even turn a wrench on your own car, probably the same keyboard warriors.

Regardless, to those of you who actually commented with intent to help, thank you.
