Default Latest Model with same M9X engine swap

So my buddy totaled his VERY low mileage 04' C4S with an outstanding M9X drivetrain. He's wondering what he can swap it into. I thought it would be 997.1 (07). is that correct?

So could the engine swap into an m96.05 or M97.01 equipped car without serious headaches? His engine is a FLAT6 4.0 BTW

If he purchased the engine from Flat6Innovations, then have him update his ticket with F6I and ask them.
No one can answer 100% whether the DME in the newer cars will work properly with that F6I 4.0 engine except for Jud or Jake.

If this was a secondhand purchase, then the answer is: "Possibly, it should, maybe, but who knows. You may need custom tuning. Good luck and let us know if it works or not."

I don't think it is a drop-in swap. You would need to compare the motors. I know that the bank 2 scavenger pump is different because it has a vacuum pump on it. Also, the intakes are different and the 997 engine is missing the power brake vacuum port. It should work to replace a 3.6 but I would imagine an FSI 4.0 has a custom tune in the ECU to take full advantage of the engine modifications.

You can get anything to fit with enough time and money.

Sure makes alot of sense to find a 996.2 roller, use the savings and set it up to be a dream car. Just saying...

The m96/03 and the m96/05 or m97/01 all share the same "architect" and same "electronics/cam timing logic" so yes !!

Some parts will need to stay with the 997 car while some may need to stay with the 996 engine ( depending on exactly which 997 you end up with ) but since you will have both complete engines you will have everything you need...so go for it....
