Isn't there a good ceramic coating someone can recommend that you can spray on your wheels that will make it easy to wash off the dust?

I think brake feel is a personal choice. I prefer to choose the right pad for the job and it's not like Akebonos or other pads that have less initial bite won't stop you. The braking characteristic changes, that's all. Think turbo vs NA power band but for brakes For street, I hate overly grabby brakes - that's me. If I want more stopping power, I press the pedal harder. To me it's more predictable. For track, I'll definitely want a pad with more initial bite.

Ceramic coatings, especially for wheels are often misunderstood. Brake dust will still form on wheels and a simple spray down, even with a power washer, will remove a lot of the the brake dust but it will not leave your wheels clean. You still need to use an appropriate cleaner and a brush. What the ceramic coating will do for you is make the cleaning process significantly easier as the dust won't "bake" into the rim. Cleaning requires very little effort. One of the best products for wheels and tires is P&S Brake Buster. I buy it by a gallon and dilute it. Not only does it clean really well but it includes rust inhibitors.

Pete,

Agreed, brake feel at the end of the day is a game breaker for everyone.

Thanks for the P&S recomendation. What do you recomend for a ceramic wheel coating?

I really like teh CarPro DLUX product (https://www.obsessedgarage.com/produ...YaAlcCEALw_wcB) Once I wash my wheels and dry them, I do a quick wipe down with P&S Bead Maker to get rid of any residual water on the rim. Bead Maker is a polymer sealant that I use as a drying aid on paint but it works really well on wheels and helps to maintain the coating. Before you apply the ceramic coating you really need to take time to prep the rim or the coating wont last. Use an iron removed followed by a clay bar at the very least.

See, I like a firm pedal that I have to stand on to get to threshold braking. Soooo different! What’s right is what’s right for you.

I use Akebono and feel like they are pretty good, good bite, and low dust.

Thanks to all for your reply’s. I have no issues with performance of the brake pads currently on the car. With that in mind, I’m going to take the initial step to ceramic coat the wheels and see where that takes me. Take from there after a few months.

Nein, love to hear how it goes. Anything to make it easy to clean the wheels is a win. Maybe some of the guys with the detailing knowledge will start a thread on various topics.

Best product I ever used for cleaning wheels:
GYEON Quartz Q²M Iron 500 ml - Iron Remover Breaks Down Embedded Iron Deposits in Paint and Wheels https://a.co/d/0k9p7zP

if you go with Hawk ceramic yellow pads, you will hardly use it. These pads are almost 0 dust.

Hawk Performance HB290Z.583 Performance Ceramic Brake Pad https://a.co/d/hBsVjBq

GC996 - Definitely will report back on how it goes. I ordered the ceramic coating today. It will take a little time (prep/drive time) to get a good feel for how it works.

It’s been about 3 weeks since I’ve applied ceramic coating to 3 of 4 wheels (two layers). I left one untreated to determine if there’s any significant difference in brake dust build up. I’ve put around 200 miles on the car in that 3 week period. Normally there’s a significant film of brake dust on the wheels within a 50 mile distance making them have a dingy (sp?) dark grey/black look. I can confirm that there’s only a slight film of brake dust after 200 miles on the three, but more importantly, a quick spray of the water hose wipes it all away. Prior, the brake dust clung to the wheels requiring more of a mechanical (scrubbing) action taking significant time (based on the wheel type I have). Overall, I’m happy with the results and recommend doing this if you haven’t already. Not sure how long the coating will last.
