Brake Pad Recommendations Needed

The brake pads I currently have installed on my 2003 C2 are causing a tremendous amount of dust. This makes owning 3 piece BBS wheels difficult as there’s always a film of brake dust on the lower portions of the car. I like the performance of the current installed pads, but I’m looking for something that will minimize dust, not squeal, and not impact performance. I don’t track the car or use it for autocross days. Just normal (sometimes spirited) driving. Does anyone have a recommendation for both front and rear pads that won’t break the bank?

I asked the same question a year ago and went with Brembo ceramics all around, part #65008N, which I think are pretty popular for street use. They perform great with no squeal (oem rotors) but I've noticed no improvement with dust. Now I'm thinking about ceramic coating my wheels to make them less of a dust magnet and easier to clean. Amazon has some wheel kits starting at $30 and the Gyeon kit is $45 that I might go with. Aside from brake recommendations it would be good to hear any experience with these coatings, if they repel dust or not.

Akebono Euro pad have very little dust. I changed to these during my last pad change. Performance seemed the same. Then I changed wheels from 17" Carrera wheels to 18" GT3 wheels. 7lbs added to each corner. Quite a noticeable change in braking performance. Not bad, but a lot more pedal pressure required. Maybe if I had the GT3 wheels to start with I never would've noticed the difference. Now I'm looking at Pagid SP+ to see if I can get the performance back. And likely back to the dust. Sigh. So, Akebono's have amazingly little dust compared to stock pads.

I second Akebono Euro pads. They were a game changer for me in terms of duct. My rims are anthracite in color and the dust produced is barely visible. They don't have as much bite as OEM but I feel like they are more than adequate for street use. I'll be using separate pads for track.

Textar are OE pads and were specified by the factory for use in the 1999 Mk 1 996 GT3.
They’re an excellent pad, and whilst they work satisfactorily from cold, a bit of heat transforms their efficiency.
I’ve not used Akebono’s, but I have to ask the question, why would you want a pad with less bite than OE ?
As for CarboTech, their website advice for their various pads is so contradictory, I wouldn’t risk purchasing them.
1521 :
The Carbotech 1521™ also known as Bobcat™ is our high performance street compound.
but then :
“This compound is NOT recommended for regular fast road or any track use, see below for compounds more suitable for this“
And for the AX6 :
“Drivers use the AX6™ for road use as well even though Carbotech doesn’t recommend street driving with AX6™ due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise.“
And the XP8 :
XP8 “Carbotech does not generally recommended XP8™ as a daily driven street pad due to elevated levels of dust and noise, however it is proving popular for the fast road users of high performance vehicles who can compromise in there quest for the braking performance and control they need.

Another vote for Akebono Euro pads. I started with Textars but changed them to the Akebonos after a couple of weeks because the Textars were crazy dusty. BTW, if someone is looking for a set of virtually new Textars, I'll make you a killer deal. ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Akebono pad perform great after being properly bedded.
I find they outperform both Textar and Brembo pads on the street.
I also have a set of Hawk Performance Plus Track & Pagid Yellow pads for the track.
They're both superior to the Akebono once they're warmed up, but dusty and noisy.

My vote would be to get the best braking you can without concern for dust. Your gonna get dust nomatter which pads you use, right?
Isn't there a good ceramic coating someone can recommend that you can spray on your wheels that will make it easy to wash off the dust?

This is how I feel also. I am a huge sucker for brake pad bite. I like pads to practically throw me through the window when I use them. Brake dust stinks, but this is not a daily driver for me so I just have to keep the car clean after use. Ceramic coating the car and the wheels goes a long way. Allows you to spray the car off every so often and keep debris off the surfaces.

We use and sell the 1521 pad for street applications. We have guys buying them almost daily ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Havnet tried the other compounds. BMW, Audi, & Porsche we have been using these as a less dusty street option w excellent customer feedback.
Cant speak of the other compounds but 1521 is a winner w less dust and great stopping power.
