Polish them with P21S Multi-Surface Finish Restorer Polish:
http://www.carcareonline.com/detail....oduct_id=10417

The first time you do this, you'll need to polish each tip a few times--don't be afraid to really rub.

Once you have a nice finish, use some RejeX:
http://www.corrosionx.com/rejex.html

This stuff is great at keeping exhaust tips from discoloring, and also great at keeping bug splats off the windshield, and brake dust from accumulating on your wheels.

I do this a few times a year and the tips look great.

I second all of the tips posted here, with the addition of taking the tips off and buffing them on a polishing wheel.

I just use some metal polish I got from Kragen and then put a coat of RejeX on.

For about $150 you can buy a set of factory tips already polished, from
AJ-USA, all you have to do is send your old ones in after you get the new ones ($300 refundable core charge)

This approach can be done with the tips on the car...

1. Rinse tips with hose/spray to loosen soot/particles
2. Wash tips inside and out with general auto car wash soap/water to get more soot/particles off
3. Spray tips inside and out with an all purpose auto cleaner (I use P21S Total Auto Wash)
4. While still wet with P21S, clean tips with OOO grade steel wool (use one steel wool pad per tip and do the outside first then the inside. This method will help minimize scratching the outside.
5. Rinse
6. Dry with a soft microfiber cloth
7. Polish tips (I use Mothers PowerMetal)

Should look like this when finished...

There are tips that come from the factory without a natural high luster appearance. My brother has those on his 996. I took the tips off the car and used steel wool and Mothers metal polish but they still did not have the high polish look as the tips on my turbo.

I have only seen tips that are bolted on from the factory, although I have not looked at all models through the years.

MKI tips are longer, look a little deeper for the clamps (about 4 inches)
