Pilot Sport 2: 996-Approved?
Hi all,
Is Michelin's PS2 "N-compatible" with a '99 996 cab?
I can't seem to find an up-to-date Porsche "Approved Tires" list (ATL); only older lists which specify the Pilot Sport. Likewise, TireRack.com recommends the Pilot Sport (both, the "Rib" (Porsche OE) and non-rib variants) but never even mentions the PS2. [In fact, the website doesn't call up the PS2s for any Porsche model but the GT3.]
So, is the PS2 approved by Porsche, but NOT for my model?
In the same vein, the Yokohama AVS Sport is mentioned in older ATLs and listed at TireRack.com, though the latter does not show these as "Porsche OE." What's the deal? If it had an N1 rating in 1/03, why wouldn't it be listed as "Porsche OE" today?
This is all very confusing.
Any advice is appreciated.
Dave

At this time, the PS2 is only approved for the GT3, GT2 and Carrera GT. However, I don't see why you cannot use it on a Carrera. There really is no good reason.

The PS2 is only available in the 225/265 combo, not yet N rated, but who cares. I really wanted to try some 285s this time around so I purchased a set of 225/285 N -rated ribs. We'll see...

In the April/May 2004 Christophorus they list the approved summer tires as of model year 2004.
The 911, 911/4, the cab, and cab/4 for 18" wheels, are:
Bridgestone S-02A N3, Continental Sportcontact N2, Michelin Pilot Sport N1, and the Pirelli P Zero rosso N3.
The 911 Turbo and 911 C4S are:
Bridgestone Potenza S-02 A N3, and the Michelin Pilot Sport N1.
Hope this helps. If you have a 285/30 mZR 18 on your 911 or 911 cab, the Pirelli changes to P Zero rosso N4

Thank you, all. Very helpful! [Where da heck's my April/May Christophorus?!]
Actually, I do have 225/265 wheels on my 911, so I suppose the option remains open; mechanically speaking. But without Porsche's blessing.... Hmmm.....
I'm curious to know what you, the pros, would do in my position. Until my wife & I log a few more hours in autocrossing, these will be dual-purpose tires. That said, ours is a weekend toy, not a daily driver, and we enjoy spirited driving through our local mountain roads. So, ride and noise comfort are indeed factors, but not exclusive of performance. Any advice?
Thanks again!

Three Wheelin'
Cars @ dealer with PS2's
My dealer seems to have a number of cars with Michelin Pilot Sport 2's fitted to a C4S, C4S Cab, and to a TT. According to the service manager they have a number of cars in stock with PS2's fitted as standard. I guess Tire Wreck will get them in stock soon.

And, here's what the Pilot Sport 2 looks like:
