Aren't license plates required in most European contries includign Germany? Wonder if they test with the front plate in mind or not.

Hate to say it, but that petition isn't going to do a damn thing. I only wish.

The sole purpose of the front plate is to generate revenue via the red light cameras which are, er, a bit optimistic in their picture taking activities. Whenever there's money to be made, the CA laws aren't going to give way.

I got a ticket a few months ago for not having the front plate. Yeah, it was a fixit ticket, and I got pulled over for no other infraction. Had to pay $25 anyway (sherriff signoff/court cost/yada yada). Next time, it becomes a full non-fixit ticket, since they already pulled me over for no front plate.

Yeah, it looks better without it, but in the end, whatever it takes to draw less attention to myself, I'll do, if that means mounting the front plate.

FYI, my Imola Yellow Audi S4 NEVER had a front plate, and never got pulled over for it.

It's a scam, but I doubt they'll recind it. Good luck.

One time I got pulled over in my 3000GT Vr-4 for no front plate. After 4 cruisers pulled up and pretty must surrounded me, the officer expalained to me that one of the reaons they like pulling over cars without a front plate is that car thieves take the front plate of other unsuspecting victims with similar or idential cars and put it on the back of a stolen car. A lost back plate is more noticable than the front plate so the thief buys some time to get it to the chop shop or dock.

Peter: I voted.

Now we have to have the motorcycle helmet law abolished. The originator of the law has now reversed his position.

I signed... But speaking of this topic -- Anybody know where I can order a front-license plate mounting bracket for my 99 996? Would prefer to not go into the dealer if i don't have to. Thanks..

When I was a kid I was told that California plates were made by prisoners and if I did not behave I would be making plates.

I have always wondered if the first part was true. The second part is not true because in 5 years I finally got a ticket for no front plate in my Boxster in Santa Clara County and I paid the $10 administrative fee for the fix-it ticket. No jail time, but I might be a repeat offender, as the plate is off again.

Years ago in my county when you got a fix-it ticket for an equipment violation you fixed it. You had any police officer sign the back of the ticket as proof of correction. Mailed the ticket to traffic court. And that was then end of it. Cost nothing. If you went to the counter at the local police department they did not even look at the car.

The county now wants money. $10 if I provided proof of correction. $70 if I did not. They say it is now $100 in San Francisco.

Such a law will never pass. It generates money and they will have to lay off prisoners.

Could we get one started to abolish speeding tickets? We could use the same excuse...
"police officers will be more productive in stopping dangerous motor vehicle violations such as drunk driving, reckless driving, speeding, etc., because their time won't be compromised by a California motorist who simply didn't have a front license plate on display."
Ok, maybe we should also remove speeding from that sentence
