Its a trend that has been building in the 911 space. Based on the success of the 959 with Jacky Ickx at the Dakar. Leh Keen has built a couple of cool ones and has added some momentum.

Sure, some look better than others. I would bet we will see more 996 safaris being built. My indy just built a 911 safari for a client. Very cool to say the least. If you think about it, it's the ultimate 911. Can go anywhere just in case.

I read somewhere the Porsche's first racing win was the Monty Carlo Rally in the late 60's... it's fitting people still do the rally set up.

Vic Elford. Was not only a legend but also a damn good guy.

When I pick my car up at my indy, I'll snap a few shots of the safari. They really are pretty cool.

Very cool...I think the Baja light pod looks a little weird though, if you move it back on the hood more, it would look better to me, would be reminiscent of the old 6-71 Supercharger "Bird Catcher"...

I think it would look better with a ducktail, not to mention be better for offroading through the bush.

I finally got a chance to watch the video this morning.
This 996 Safari is the best I've seen so far.
I'd just want to delete the back seats and add a rollbar.

It would be a fun project for a 2nd 996. Bet kits eventually come out to do it. I would love one as a daily driver.

Yes, a second 996.
...and with a Tip, it would be great for commuting.
Those ole potholes would be no match!
Neither would the miles and miles of stop and go traffic.

I love my manual, but sometimes wish I had a Tip during daily driving.
I really need to own a second 996.

I was at Kelly Moss last week and they said they're actively working on a 996 safari kit. Release date TBD.

You must be from WI, MN, or IL. Everything Kelly Moss does is top quality. Looking forward to seeing it.

Yep, I live all of 6 miles from Kelly Moss. One of the best kept secrets in Madison is that they also do service work at a cheaper rate than the dealer.

I promised a couple of pictures of the safari build my indy did for a client. I know, its not a 996, but its really cool. It's a 1985 911 built by Midwest Eurosport in IL. The car is not built for show, it's built for functionality off road as well as on. Pictures don't do it justice. Think "all terrain bond car". Now that my wife and I are empty nesters, I am thinking that maybe I don't need an suv anymore. No need to worry about chicago snow and bad roads. I can throw everything on the roof rack and go...

Vic Elford would want one.
