I went for a nice long run yesterday, ostensibly doing errands but taking the long way everywhere I went. I was in the car for several hours, driving over a wide variety of road surfaces and speeds. The experience of being in the car is utterly different now that the creaks are gone.

And gone they are! It's a little silly in retrospect but I had been ascribing the occasional creaky noise to the car's age and mileage. Now that they're gone it is almost like a different car. Amazing.

Here's the writeup. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-solution.html

I think I'm going to get some of the GPL205 for the Panoramic roof of my Cayenne. I have not dared to operate the roof yet as they are known to be, well, a bit finicky.

The garage dodged a bullet overnight last night. There is a lacy leaf maple under there which may not have been as lucky.

Whew!
I have a huge oak tree next to my garage that I worry about falling during a hurricane.
I keep it well trimmed so it catches less wind, but...

If it is close to the building it may not be as much of a risk. The real danger is when they have a chance to build up speed as they fall. I had a coworker whose house was hit by a falling tree, but since it was right beside the house all it did was bend the rain gutter.

Oh man. I have a random question. Was that expected? Being from the south, I have two 27’ Royal Palms in my back yard that have survived 4 hurricanes and 2 tropical storms… I still get anxious during storms.

Completely out of the blue as far as I can tell. It's a birch tree, perhaps it was reaching the end of its life, I dunno. The roots look alive and strong and yet it broke off right at the bottom.

Jeez, now that I know this stuff happens… I can’t unsee it and all trees are suspect in my eyes.

Being through many hurricanes and storms worrying, I had two tall trees cut down and removed. Brand new roof ($$$) also made me re-think about them. Now just low landscaping.

We're in the grip of the big freeze that is affecting much of the country. Temp will not get out of single digits today. On top of that our power went out yesterday afternoon and is still out today. Power company has resorted to a blanket power restoration time for all of the dozens of outages in the area: "We expect to restore power to the majority of affected customers by Dec 26 2022, 11:00 PM". Joy to the world!

With that in mind, here is my favorite machine at the moment.

Not a current picture - there's snow and ice on it today

Nice!
Here’s mine, the little brother to your 24kW:

Glad it’s on duty in case of hurricane or winter storm induced outages.

It got below freezing here for over 24 hours straight.
Most years we get about 10 hours of below freezing temperatures all winter long down here near the coast.
(Usually only a couple of hours at a time in the middle of the night)
24 hours straight is almost unheard of.
Normal winter temps are in the 50s. (I wonder why snowbird like to come south for the winter, ha!)
It was in the 20s and 30s for a lot of yesterday.
I'm still hoping to see 40s later today before it drops below freezing again.
I've lived down here for 22 years now so I'm no longer used to cold temperatures.
I grew up in North West Texas, where below 0F happened each year.
I don't miss cold temps!

No precipitation this week, so driving(non-summer tires) is not a problem.

When the front came through a couple of days ago we had some power issues, but nothing extended.

Power's back! 23 hours almost to the minute. HUGE GIGANTIC ENORMOUS THANK YOU to the hard working folks who made that happen and who are still out there making it happen for others.

We live on a hill in the woods. The power line stops about 5 houses up the hill from ours. We've had a TON of electrical outages since we moved here.

We originally just roughed it -- we have a wood stove and a spring and a propane cooktop, so we were in decent shape in terms of essentials.

After Isabel came through in 2003, and we were out of power for 10 days, we decided to get a generator. We went with a gasoline unit that we plugged into the house circuit when needed. It didn't run everything, but we had heat and hot water and lights and the food didn't spoil. It suited us well.

After we added the garage however, that solution was no longer really adequate; I'd have to turn off the entire garage circuit if I didn't want the lights dimming erratically in the house. So we got the whole house unit. It finally showed up in October and everything was hooked up by the beginning of November. We've used it 4 times since then! Which brings me to the other reason we decided to go this route. As I mentioned, we live in the woods. Many of the trees in the woods around here are ash trees. A year or so ago a little fella called the emerald ash borer visited the area and killed nearly every one of them. So now every time the wind blows the power blinks off and on, or goes out altogether. Because the ash trees are falling. They're going to be falling for the next few years. In that light the whole house generator made a lot more financial sense to us.

Anyway thanks for reading and commiserating. Happy Holidays!

Just read this entire thread! Really enjoyed the suspension refresh! Gummi Pflege is what I used to get rid of creaks on my cab top! It would creak a lot where the roof and windshield frame came together drove me crazy!
Merry Christmas everyone! Wish I had my garage back.. divorce lost it all now I'm a driveway mechanic at my GF's house oh well! Taking the turbo to my exes house to spend the morning with at least 3 of my kids and zoom with the ones in Germany and Wisconsin!
