Default Anyone know what these numbers mean stamped on the block?

I was pulling a motor (that I know has an LN Bearing) and noticed numbers stamped in the block behind the sump (see pic).

Anyone know what these are there?

Guessing the motor had extensive work at some point. It is not an AT engine.

Was this done at the factory? I have seen many of these engines and this is the first time I've ever seen something stamped there. For a while when I was much dumber, I used to use that spot as a jack point...

Yes, these markings are from the factory.

Interesting, never seen them before in any other 996 engine that I have worked on. This is the first 2001 that I have worked on, maybe it started at that point, although the AT engine with the big 997 bearing that is in my car now (made well after 2001) doesn't have them.

That's actually one of our checks we do when we get blocks in for sleeving. If the numbers don't match, the first thing we do is call the customer.

Most of the time it takes some forensic cleaning to be able to see and read the numbers, it doesn't take much dirt and grime to hide them, but I have never seen any castings without them...

Time for me to get cleaning the other cars. It's amazing with how covered in oil and grime this engine is they are so visible.

Yea, a dry corrosion is what will hide the numbers the most, you will think they are not there, then start cleaning and lightly sanding and they will appear like magic...lol
