ok cool - I was wondering if installing e-throttle body and tune would solve it... do you know if any 3.4 X51 core motors are available? Porsche is still offering core 3.4 engines for those who want to trade in their old core... haven't heard of any x51 cores being offered though... would be sweeet!
I have been Retired from Porsche for 7 years now and have no idea what the availability or price is now, but I suspect the availability is very very low and the price is very very high...lol

The only difference between the TT, Mk4, and 996 electronic controls is the control panel. All the rest of the system is the same - heater box, wiring, the lot. Yes, you could get electronic heater controls in a Mk4, VW called it "Climatronic". I have transplanted the Mk4 Climatronic heater systems into a lot of older VW's and had all the others apart at one time or another and the heater box and wiring are the same Valeo parts.

Yeah climatronic was only on high end mk4s ie R32. My lowly TDIs had the normal stuff. Climatronic swaps require you swap the whole system I believe. Heater box etc

I remember when you could get "Complete Factory 3.4 X51 Motors" from Porsche for $6800usd. Our Dealership had mistakenly ordered the X51 m96/01S instead of the standard m96/01 because it was at the top of the list of engines and the Parts Guy wasn't the best trained parts man. They simply sent it back. At one point they were even offered them with "no core charge", due the abundance of them.
