Default Overheard tonight

Seems like my alternator seized up tonight and serpentine belt snapped. I was not able to pull over for about 5km due to construction barriers. I managed to shut the car off and coast most of that distance but had to restart to maintain speed. Needless to say, the coolant light came on and needle was at 250. No coolant leaked, no bubbling, and things appear ok at the moment.

After replacing the alternator, belt and oil, what should I be checking out for. What’s the likely hood of having damaged the engine or cracked a head? It’s a 2001.

im so upset…

Well, title was auto corrected. Should say overheated.

in addition to the above, the needle wasn’t quite at the 250 line, but I don’t know what difference a few mm would make in that gauge anyway

Watch for intermix in the coolant tank. Get a used oil analysis and check for wear metals.

I know the reality, but I want someone to tell me everything will be ok 😂

The fact that I didn’t lose coolant or have the tank blow off help my case in anyway?

Shutting the car off and coasting most of that time probably made a big difference. Don’t sweat anything until you have reason to do so. You’re probably fine.
