Did you also apply the coating to the inner barrels? I did mine after mounting tires. I've heard that wheel weights sometimes don't stay on on a coated surface. Something to keep in mind.
That’s awesome and I’ve heard good things about that company and their coating. I do not plan on doing the inner barrels because CG suggests using their coating on smooth surfaces and the barrels are matte. I will wax the barrels though and keep up with the maintenance regimen. For cleaning I have a brush that is long enough for the barrels and big enough to work on the 21’ wheels on the Touareg, they’ll work well on the OZs.

You can coat matte surfaces it just depends on the coating. I just coated a set of matte black wheels for a customer's Tacoma and if anything it makes them darker, no issues with it. For the barrels, you could use something like Cquartz Dlux which is for metal, plastics, and wheels. You could also just do a test spot with the coating you have and see how it looks.

I’ll keep that in mind and I’ll try it after I get the wheels mounted.

Update for today. EPS is in, RMS was pretty dry, Flywheel is dead with some light cracking and the IMS was leaking. He said everything else was clean and the car was in very good condition. Wheels go on this Monday!

Sooooo it appears my 996 had the engine replace at some point and it was verified by Porsche. The block in the car now has the latest upgraded OEM option. I’m still replacing it and EPS makes a kit to ream the IMS pocket to remove the old IMS. The lip came out beautifully and FVD hardware kit arrived. Should have the car no later than Wednesday which is perfect because I’ll be in Puerto Rico from the 23rd to the 27th.

That's not a bad thing. I've learned similar with my car but getting some specifics has been tough and largely unsuccessful. Have you reached out to Porsche directly or your local dealer?

Looking forward to seeing this completed!

The car had 3 owners(myself included) over 18yrs so I’m guessing it was part of the engine swap program or it was done under warranty. The odometer is reading 54k miles so assuming the swap was done within the warranty window at 3yrs or 36k miles... the engine could have half the mileage the chassis has(just a wild *** guess... have no metics to prove it). Now with the EPS swap, I feel a little more confident about the car being in good engine health. Once the car is back in my possession, I’ll send off the oil sample and I guess at that point I’ll know more. The owner of the company who rented out the EPS reaming tool asked

To answer your question, the shop called Porsche to find the info on the original block that came with the car.

Start a new thread about boring the engine case to install an eps bearing, you will be enlightened.
I recommend you do not go down that path. Regards.

That makes sense. My X51 motor was replaced at about 25k miles, most likely due to a filed IMS. I may need to talk to my shop and do some more networking to see if I can get some more info out of Porsche.

Why? So he can be enlightened that LN is the only choice out there and everything else stinks, having no actual experience? My EPS roller bearing came out in perfect condition after about 50k miles. Could have very well stayed in. I have yet to hear of any issues using the procedure EPS has developed for closed engines.

Its gonna open up a crap storm of opinion but the issue is with reaming the opening and introducing metal into the oiling system after the oil filter. If anything gets into the system it can be catastrofic.

Hopefully this thread can stay on track and another thread can be formed.

No worries and apparently he’s done several before.

I appreciate it but we’re past that now. I’ll be picking up the car later today. If it goes bad for whatever reason, we’ll have this thread as evidence.

So let me get this straight... You identified that you have a Porsche factory replacement engine with the updated 6305 "M97" large single row bearing. A bearing that has very few reports of failure. Instead, you bore it out the hole with a kit that uses a large bit to grind into the case as shown in their videos. (see below) Is that correct?
