HELP: 1999 996 won't start
My wife took the car to Target. Ran fine. Locked it, went into store. Came back 10 minutes later, unlocked it, won't start. All the lights come on but there is no engine sounds at all. Anyone have any ideas...I hate the thought of having it towed. Thanks.

Voltage is a good question...I will check that. The engine makes no sound at all when she tries to start it.
Also, I should have said, I have a tiptronic.
And yes, I need to leave it at Target overnight
Any more ideas?

I had exactly the same problem about a year ago.
I have a 6 speed and I had full power in the car, full voltage on battery, nothing blocking clutch pedal and no clicks or anything when key was turned to start and had to have it flat bed towed to the dealer.
Turns out they said that it was the alarm controller which had failed and disabled the starter of the car.
They replaced it under warranty and told me it would have cost about $2K to fix otherwise, although it was Bev Hills Porsche so who knows what it costs elsewhere.

you will likely have full voltage on most battery's unless one of the cells is actually destroyed, now weather or not you have enough amps to crank the car is another quiestion
