I took a different route after blowing my '03 C4S's 3.6L after ~75 track days. Had it rebuilt by Loren Beggs at 911 Design near Ontario, CA, who bored it out to 4.0L and added a deep sump and a center radiator. This was about 3 years ago. Passing GT3's never gets old in my "sleeper" 996 :-)

If you're really interested in an X51, this is the engine from my totalled 40th AE. 26K miles, IMS solution, every oil analysis clean. No zone 2 overrevs, but I added a few zone 1s!
Not me but the wreckers who bought my car.

There are plenty of other choices other than Jake to convert the 3.6 into a higher displacement unit. You just have to have a shop that is well versed in engine work and specifically Porsche engines to make it happen.

It doesn't make sense to ship the car to Jake if you have plenty of more local choices. It's going to take time either way though so patience and research is rewarded with quality outcomes.

I went to a 4L and could not be happier. It's basically a 718 GT4 in a 996 body.

This year our Canadian business has exploded. It was a little slower during the early part of spring due to COVID19, but in the last month we have seen the "spring bump" that always happens with Canadian purchasers come on strong.
We do a ton of Canadian work, and have several options from having the whole car shipped, to having one of a few different installers to choose from to facilitate the removal, and replacement of the engine. That's my "Premier program" and it works very well for those who do not wish to ship the car. Shipping the engine is a well defined process that we handle for you.

Yep, there are other choices than my program. You can trust that all of those people are busy wondering how they can do the job as well as we can, how we make so much more power, and why we don't have the problems that they do upon completion.

One thing I cannot stop thinking about is the sound of a good ‘cam.’ These stage 1 and such engine rebuilds are awesome, but with a good exhaust, for a hot rod, I’d want that cam sound, which probably requires the head work to be done on a higher stage engine.

You won't get that here.. I only build engines that idle perfectly smooth at 1,000 RPM. When I hear something running all "lumpy" I think back to the time when I was 15, and made a huge mistake by running too much cam. The engine didn't do anything well, and couldn't be tuned.

When I hear that sound from any engine with less than 13:1 CR I just think that the guy that built it had no freaking idea what he was doing.

My current NA record with an M9X is 480 HP at the flywheel, on 93 octane, from one of my R43 engines. It idled just as smoothly as stock, and you couldn't even tell it was "built".

If you want something that lopes around, then you need a Chevy "Cammerra" and not a "Carrera".
