After years of dealing with my phone flopping around with the vent clip I use (and have great luck with) in my other vehicles, I've decided to take on replacing the 996's clip with one that's rock solid. Below is what I've found to fit the bill. Another upside is with the far-right placement, I now have use of my backup radar detector which was blocked by the other unit I was using.
This unit wraps completely around the vent fun and locks on very tightly by screwing the fastener down. Holds the phone completely still even with coilovers.
If you want it up high, I’d go with something like a Ram mount that is suctioned to the window. It won’t fall off and you won’t need to use adhesive on the dash.
