Best cellphone holder for 996?
#16
The vent clip ones work great in my "comfortable" cars, but in the 996 it will eventually tilt downwards due to the bumpiness of the ride due to the weight of the phone. I also found my charging cable to often get in the way of shifting with the higher mount. I ended up folding and getting the rennline one too. Expensive for what it is, but you only buy it once.

I seldom bother looking at my phone while driving but, when I do, I have a very good vent type mount that works in all of my cars including the 911.
However, among the ones mentioned above, I like the Rennline magnetic holder the best.
The only "problem" w/that one is if you change phones and need to remove the metal pad to put it on another phone.
Can you order an extra pad(s) for it in that event? If not, then that is a problem. Not going to buy another one if I buy another phone.

I use the RAM Mount too. I like that it keeps the phone higher up so I can glance at it quickly while driving rather than having to look so far down too long.

As I have the GT3 Console delete as well, I use one of these. It first in the upper cup holder, which is very convenient.

Vent style will damage your vents easily. The Rennline version is design for your vehicle. Easily installed and works perfect.

After years of dealing with my phone flopping around with the vent clip I use (and have great luck with) in my other vehicles, I've decided to take on replacing the 996's clip with one that's rock solid. Below is what I've found to fit the bill. Another upside is with the far-right placement, I now have use of my backup radar detector which was blocked by the other unit I was using.
This unit wraps completely around the vent fun and locks on very tightly by screwing the fastener down. Holds the phone completely still even with coilovers.

I put off going to wireless charging for a while (it's slower) but I've now gone wireless in first my home, then my Volvo semi, and now my newly acquired '01 C2. If you tap the phone with your pinky finger accidentally, it will fall off, but while driving it has never fallen off, not even in my semi truck. I'm now a convert.
P.S. The ProClip 996 mount doesn't show any holes to add their Magsafe holder to it. Customer service explained that the photo was of a prototype, and my mount did indeed come with all four holes as promised.

I picked up this from Pelican. Pricey, but clean install and works well.

I’ve tried several vent mounts and not happy with any, as the vents are hardly sturdy enough, and am concerned about eventually damaging the vent. I want the phone up near my field of vision, but not in the windshield or glued to any dash section up near the windshield. For me, this also ruled out the well regarded Rennkit mount. After trying several, I’m very happy with a Spigen mount (pics attached) that while mostly intended for vent mounting also, has jaws that open enough to grip onto the fixed moulding that surrounds the vent. More importantly, the clamp has a threaded ring that tightens the clamp, so it’s not just relying on spring pressure. The mount also comes with an extension arm, but I didn’t find I needed it.
BTW, I’m using an iPhone with a MagSafe case and mount, but I believe there are versions of this mount that clamp onto a phone also.
