Default 1999 996 back up sensors

I have been searching the 996 forum to add aftermarket back up sensors on a 1999 996. I don't want a back up camera, just sensors and alarms. I'm am located in SW Florida. Can anybody recommend an aftermarket kit and a shop to install. Debolds in Bonita Springs has never installed a kit.

Why do you feel the need for back up sensors?

I have the factory back up sensors on my '01 and I absolutely hate the bumper... it's visually offensive. Personally I don' think it's needed on these cars, you can clearly see where your rear bumper is by simply turning your head around. Great visibility out the back. However, I have no idea of anyone making an aftermarket kit or anyone installing it. Good luck.

My 99 also came with the backup sensor option. It comes with a separate speaker under the dash that’s required to beep during reverse.

I live in gated community where many of us "including me" are getting old. I worry about backing into someone (or another car) who are not paying attention.

Maybe there’s some type of aftermarket camera/sensor combo you could buy? Might be cheaper and/or better than the stock 996 sensor solution.

There's quite a bit out there. There's even aftermarket blindspot kits. Here are some aftermarket back up sensors I found.

I could see you concern if you where driving a big SUV, but these cars are so small and maneuverable... I'll probably get it in a few more years

And why not a camera? Its the simplest solution, and you can at least see what it is you are going to run over.

There are all sorts of aftermarket ones available, just search for what offers the features you want. Several years back someone gave me one as a gift which could be installed in the license plate area. I never installed it(gave it away), but it did seem relatively low cost and simple to do.

This is why I installed my rear mirror dash-cam. I enjoy it every day when I back-up
